Since the dark teen HBO drama is such a hit, it's no wonder that fans are eager for season 3 of Euphoria, but is Sydney Sweeney's career the reason it hasn't been released yet? While it was announced in February 2022 that the series would be given a season 2, there is no confirmed premiere date, and it seems that viewers will have to keep waiting. In the years since the series premiered in 2019, the young cast's careers have definitely skyrocketed.

Sweeney balances her acting projects with her Instagram endorsements, Zendaya has starred in a popular sci-fi film, and Jacob Elordi continues to be cast in movies.

Sweeney's sometimes over-the-top outfits have made her impossible to ignore, and her acting talent means that she will be on the rise for a long time. It appears that Sweeney's career is moving fast and this is why fans have to wait for season 3 of Euphoria.

Sydney Sweeney's Other Projects Might Have Delayed Euphoria

According to People, it seems that most think that season 3 of Euphoria will premiere in 2024, which feels like a long wait for fans eager to see more intense teen storylines. When Maude Apatow was interviewed by Vogue in February 2023, she was asked about this and didn't have a confirmed release date, either. The actress, who plays Lexi Howard, said, “I honestly don’t know a single thing. We should be getting scripts and hearing about next season soon-ish, but I’m totally in the dark!”

It seems possible that the reason why season 3 of Euphoria isn't out yet is that Sydney Sweeney's career is doing so well. Sweeney has made money from bikini endorsements and worked on a bathing suit line with Frankie's.

The actress was also cast in the horror movie Immaculate, which she also produced. According to a Variety article from October 2022, production was going to begin in January 2023, so it seems that this is keeping the actress busy. She played a religious character named Cecilia who begins working at a convent in Italy and realizes that it is haunted. While Sweeney doesn't usually appear in horror films, she did star in the 2020 Blumhouse thriller Nocture about twin sisters competing with one another at an arts boarding school.

In February 2023, Sweeney confirmed on her Instagram that she was finished filming the movie. She said, "I just wrapped the first film I’ve ever produced, Immaculate, with the most amazing cast and crew. I can’t even begin to describe what an amazing experience it’s been these past few months in Rome. I’ve learned so much and can’t wait to share all the madness we created with you."

It also seems that each season of Euphoria is a long process to film, according to Colman Domingo. The actor's Euphoria character, Ali Mohammed, is crucial to the series since he is working with Rue Bennett in NA as her sponsor.

According to People, Domingo said in an interview with Extra, "We shoot these episodes in like a month each. It takes a while. It takes so long because there are a lot of frames. If you look at the show, there are a lot of tiny, tiny scenes. [Creator] Sam [Levinson] is very meticulous in such a gorgeous way. It's gonna be worth the wait."

While fans are definitely pleased to see Sweeney's career going far, it's tough to be patient since season 2 of Euphoria ended in such a powerful way. Between Sweeney's character Cassie Howard and Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) getting into a terrible fight at the school play and Rue being in a better place, fans are curious to see where the story goes next.

Sydney Sweeney's 2023 Movie Reality Will Be Her Next Hit

Besides filming Immaculate, Sydney Sweeney also appeared in the movie Reality opposite Josh Hamilton. Variety reported that HBO Films purchased the American rights to the movie, which takes a look at the American 2016 election.

The Reality movie stars Sweeney as Reality Winner, who shared information about Russia interfering with the election and received a five-year prison sentence in 2018.

Sweeney shared a photo of the movie on her Instagram account in October 2022 and wrote, "first look at our film “Reality” the American whistleblower directed by Tina Satter. back in may @jhamilton @marchantdavis and I shot for 16 grueling days, one room, and our words taken directly from the fbi transcript. so excited our film will be premiering at @berlinale, can’t wait to share more."

As she shared with GQ in an interview, "I put so much into [Reality], and during that I was also having to do press and photoshoots, and so every weekend, or even an hour I had off, I had a photoshoot or interview or reading for projects coming up, or prepping for Madame Web. I wasn't allowed to quiet my brain. And that's hard.”

The actress is also very busy traveling to promote her movies and attending film festivals, and this packed schedule could also be a reason why Euphoria season hasn't come out yet. In February 2023, Sweeney was in Berlin to promote Reality, and in November 2022, she traveled to London for an event with British GQ.

Did Zendaya's Filming Schedule Delay Euphoria Season 3's Release Date?

Euphoria has a great young talented cast, and Zendaya, who has been praised for her performance as Rue, a teenager struggling with drug use and mental health, has become a huge star as well. Her movie roles might also be a reason why there is a wait for Euphoria season 3.

According to Digital Spy, Casey Bloys, the chief content officer of HBO Max, was asked about Zendaya's other acting commitments and how this would change the filming of more seasons. He said, "I will let [exec producer Sam Levinson and Zendaya] talk about [that]."

Zendaya starred in the 2021 adaptation of Dune alongside Timothée Chalamet. The stars came back to play their characters Chani and Paul Atreides in the sequel, Dune: Part Two, which will be released in theaters on November 3, 2023. It seems possible that filming Dune: Part Two would have taken up a good chunk of Zendaya's schedule.

The actress is also starring as Tashi Donaldson in Challengers, a movie that she has produced as well. Tashi is her husband Art's (Mike Faist) tennis coach, and they realize that he is going to play a match with Patrick Zweig (Josh O'Connor), who Tashi once dated. While it sounds like Challengers has a dramatic love triangle, the movie is definitely nowhere near as dark as Euphoria, and it's fun to see the cast branching out into other projects.
