In a new interview with magazine, Zendaya reflected on those infamous comments E!'s Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic made about her hair while at the 2015 Oscars.

It was six years ago when Rancic made controversial statements about then-18-year-old Zendaya's dreadlocks when she arrived at the Oscars. The television personality stated that the actress's hair made her look "like she smells like patchouli oil" or "weed."

Rancic's comments became a large catalyst for holding people accountable for the insensitive remarks they make, especially about race. Looking back at it now, Zendaya stated, "That's how change happens. And it made me think, 'How could I always have a lasting impact on what people saw associated with people of color?'"

At the time, Zendaya shared a lengthy tweet about Rancic's "ignorant" and "disrespectful" comments.

"To say that an 18-year-old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive," the actress stated, adding that she wore her hair in dreadlocks "to remind people of color that our hair is good enough."

Rancic apologized on Twitter and on-air for her racially insensitive comments, insisting that she was "referring to a bohemian chic look."

Besides reflecting back on those comments, Zendaya was proud of her cover and spread for the magazine which also featured her Malcolm & Marie co-star John David-Washington. The pair were photographed recreating Old Hollywood glam.

"Two Black actors in this setting seems like rewriting history in an elegant manner, like kind of an Old Hollywood that we wished existed in these photos. It's almost like righting a wrong," Zendaya expressed.
