Eve Hewson has discussed getting into character to play Adele Ferguson, one of the protagonists of Netflix compelling thriller Behind Her Eyes.

Eve Hewson On Fans Reacting To ‘Behind Her Eyes’ Double Twists

The actress, known for her roles on the movies This Must Be The Place and Bridge of Spies, portrays a mysterious, undecipherable character on Behind Her Eyes. An adaptation from the 2017 novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough, the Netflix limited series also stars Tom Bateman and Simona Brown.

Hewson’s Adele befriends protagonist Louise, played by Brown. A single mother, Louise gets involved reluctantly in an affair with her boss — and Adele’s husband — David Ferguson. Unbeknownst to David, Louise accepts Adele’s friendship, but is soon caught in a web of unspeakable secrets.

“Everybody went nuts,” Hewson confirmed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“And when we made the show, I was kind of like, ‘I don’t know if people will get this, I think it’s cool, I think it’s really weird,’” but people just ate it up,” the Irish actress continued.

This Is How Hewson Got Ready To Play Adele In ‘Behind Her Eyes’

Behind Her Eyes ends with a wild double twist that is a testament to Hewson’s acting skills.

Hewson showed a clip of herself on set as she gets ready to play her *very layered* character. In the video, the actress sports Adele’s signature sleek bob and gets into character by smashing pillows with a baseball bat.

“Without revealing too much, my character gets to some very heightened emotions, and there’s lots of rage, let’s say, that I have to go through in the show,” she said.

“I was a little bit scared that I wasn’t gonna be able to get there, and I came up with this idea one day,” she explained.

That’s when the baseball bat came in.

“I think I need a baseball bat and I just wanna smash a pillow before I go into a take,” Hewson said.

“Our director, Erik Richter Strand, is kind of wonderful and weird and he was like, ‘I like it, do it,’” she also said.

The actress added that she would use the bat right before going into a very intense scene. And she wasn’t the only one.

“It sort of became this communal experience where if anybody on the crew was having a bad day or if they just needed to get their stress out, they were like ‘Can I have a go at that thing?’” Hewson said.
