Since Dr. Dre hasn’t released a solo album in more than five years, it has been a while since he has been a mainstay of the headlines. However, in early- 2021, the world learned that Dr. Dre was in hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm. A shocking revelation, the response to Dre’s sudden medical emergency revealed a lot about the musical genius. After all, loads of his fans worried about him on social media and several of Dre’s friends and peers sent him their support.
Even though Dr. Dre is a music legend who has some notable friends in the entertainment industry, that doesn’t mean that every aspect of his life is worthy of celebration. Instead, Dre has done some things that were so objectively terrible that is shocking that the vast majority of people have completely forgotten about them.
Some Of Dre’s Disgusting Deeds
Throughout 2021, there has been a lot of talk about Dr. Dre’s personal life as some things have come to light that paint a dark picture of his conduct. For example, even though he is incredibly wealthy due to the fortune he made from Beats and his music career, the world has learned that Dre’s eldest daughter is homeless. On top of that, with details of their legal battle garnering headlines, a lot of people are learning about the details of the tumultuous relationship Dre had with his wife.
No matter how much people are talking about his relationship with his eldest daughter and wife, most of them are ignoring several awful things Dr. Dre has done. For example, in 2015, Dre apologized to the “women (he’d) hurt” after several people came forward to accuse the rapper of abuse. In order to put his past behavior in the right context, it makes sense to take a look at some of the deplorable things Dre has done.
During the late-‘80s, a young female rapper named Tairrie B landed a contract with Dr. Dre’s former N.W.A. peer Eazy-E. During the recording process for Tairrie B’s album, there were plans for a song that would include vocals from all of the N.W.A.’s members. After learning that the planned song was going to be about Tairrie B defending herself vocally after every N.W.A. member called her a bitch, she decided to not record the track. Instead, Tairrie B recorded a song dissing the N.W.A. and some of their friends.
After Dr. Dre heard Tairrie B’s diss track, he confronted her at a party where Janet Jackson, Dick Clark, and the New Kids on the Block were in attendance. In the years since Tairrie B has described what happened after she refused to back down. “When Dr. Dre heard the track, he turned up at the awards ceremony party, where he punched Tairrie twice – once in the mouth and one in the eye. He hit me like Tyson, but I took it – I don’t know how”. Tairrie B spoke to the police about the incident that night but according to reports, she dropped any charges after being financially rewarded.
After the rapper Michel'le met Dr. Dre when she was only 16-years-old, they would go on to become a couple a few months later. During their relationship, Michel'le and Dre would get engaged and have a baby together. Unfortunately, Michel'le has stated that their relationship was far from a storybook story. Instead, Michel'le says that Dre was an abusive partner who broke her nose so severely that she required plastic surgery.
An Awful Incident
When it comes to the claims of assault and abuse that have been levied against Dr. Dre, it would be wrong to try to rank them. Despite that, it is remarkable that almost everyone has forgotten about one incident since it garnered headlines at the time and the details of the situation are hard to stomach.
During the early-‘90s, Ice Cube was on very bad terms with his former N.W.A. peers after he left the group. As a result, Dee Barnes interviewed Cube and the members of N.W.A. for her show Pump It Up and when the episode aired, she crosscut between clips from both conversations. During Cube’s interview, he mocked The D.O.C., a close friend of Dre’s who’d recently been near-fatally shot. Unfortunately for Barnes, Dre took great offense at Cube’s comments and blamed her for airing them.
In a revolting turn of events, Dr. Dre severely beat up Dee Barnes after he ran into her at a record release party. Barnes later put out a statement describing the beating and it is hard to read. “He picked her up by her hair and ‘began slamming her head and the right side of her body repeatedly against a brick wall near the stairway’ as his bodyguard held off the crowd with a gun. After Dr. Dre tried to throw her down the stairs and failed, he began kicking her in the ribs and hands. She escaped and ran into the women’s restroom. Dr. Dre followed her and ‘grabbed her from behind by the hair again and proceeded to punch her in the back of the head.’”
