Legendary horror movie director/producer Sam Raimi made his career by directing horror films- starting with 1981's The Evil Dead, which is now known as a low-budget cult classic. Yett for the last several years, Raimi has focused more on the producing side of film making. His most recent effort- the Alexandre Aja-directed flick Crawl- was a summer blockbuster that made lots of money while earning both critical and fan praise.

But now it appears that Raimi is going back to directing horror movies- much to the excitement of fans. The best part is that he already has several film projects in the works, too. But that doesn't mean that he's staying away from producing such films altogether. Case in point: Raimi recently produced the reboot of The Grudge.

Back in 2004, the Westernized version of The Grudge was released to be one of many films to capitalize on the then-popular J-Horror genre. Its success spawned two sequels that proved to be not as successful: 2006's The Grudge 2 and 2009's The Grudge 3. The latter didn't even get a theatrical release and was instead released direct-to-DVD. Funnily enough, Raimi produced 2004's The Grudge- which had starred Sarah Michelle Gellar. So to see him producing the reboot will truly please fans.

This reboot of The Grudge was directed by Nicolas Pesce, who has directed two other horror flicks- 2016's The Eyes of My Mother and 2018's Piercing. English actress Andrea Riseborough will star in the lead role, which is a new character entirely. Other notable talent includes Harold & Kumar's John Cho, GLOW’s Betty Gilpin, Insidious’s Lin Shaye, and Bird Box's Jacki Weaver.

As for the plot, the reboot followed Detective Muldoon (played by Riseborough) when she enters a home that was once the site of a grisly murder. She learns of a man's haunting by a real estate agent who has to sell the aforementioned house (played by Cho). That's all we know about this reboot The Grudge for now. Hopefully, some more details will come out before the film's release.

The Grudge is set to come out on January 3rd, 2020. Those who wish to see the trailer can do so here. We can't wait for it to come out!
