On January 21, Sabrina Carpenter released "Skin," a song that seemed to be a clapback at Olivia Rodrigo. The lyrics seemed to be talking about Rodrigo, as she opened the song with, "Maybe we could've been friends; If I met you in another life; Maybe then we could pretend; There's no gravity in the words we write; Maybe you didn't mean it; Maybe blonde was the only rhyme." "Skin" debuted at number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her first Hot 100 entry.

9 Sabrina Carpenter Signed With Island Records

"Skin" was the first song Carpenter released under Island Records, having previously being under Hollywood Records since 2014. Hollywood Records is the label most Disney Channel stars have been signed to. Island Records is a division of Universal Music Group.

After releasing the music video for "Skin," she went on to The Late Late Show With James Corden to perform the song. It was the song's television debut. In a later interview with Corden, Carpenter talked about the meaning and alleged rumors behind the song. "People will make a narrative out of something always, you know, and I think this was like a really interesting song for people to kind of misinterpret and make into something that it wasn’t really supposed to be in the first place," she said.

In April, the Girl Meets World star appeared on the cover of InStyle Mexico. She looked absolutely stunning. Although the article is not found online, there were a few videos released with her stunning photoshoot and quick questions. 6 Sabrina Performed At The GLAAD Awards

The 32nd Annual GLAAD Awards were streamed on GLAAD's YouTube channel in April and later premiered on Hulu. Carpenter wore a gorgeous green dress and once again performed "Skin." Carpenter was featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Issue, where she talked about her very short run in Mean Girls on Broadway. Then, during the pandemic, she launched At Last Productions, a productions company that she founded in October. Her first project under that company will have her starring in and executive producing a take on Alice In Wonderland. She is also spending time recording her fifth album and is aiming for an EGOT. A new record label means a bunch of new music, and Carpenter has posted many clips of song ideas she had on her Instagram. However, on August 23, the 22-year-old posted a reel for an upcoming song called "Skinny Dipping." In the clip, she is sitting on a rooftop, holding a jukebox while a snippet of the song plays. Fans figured out the track title when she sent out a newsletters to subscribed fans, capitalizing certain letters. "Skinny Dipping" will be the follow-up to "Skin." No release date has been announced yet.
