Whether playing the beloved detective in the Sherlock TV series or being cast in the MCU as Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the most popular actors working today. He's great at portraying historical figures, like Alan Turning in The Imitation Game, and he even voiced a character in Penguins of Madagascar.

After Sherlock ended, Cumberbatch has done a lot, and fans love reading about him because he seems like such a good guy. He even once helped someone during a mugging.

Cumberbatch is also a proud dad to five-year-old Christopher, three-year-old Hal, and a possible third baby (more on that soon). The actor is pretty private so let's take a look at what is known about his family life.

A Private London Life

Unlike many other celebrities, who give interviews while pregnant and share their baby photos right away, Benedict Cumberbatch is all about privacy when it comes to his family life. He isn't a famous father sharing Instagram photos.

Cumberbatch married Sophie Hunter on February 14th, 2015, according to Hello Magazine. They chose the UK's St Peter & St Paul's medieval church as their ceremony venue and had the reception at Mottistone Manor.

Since then, the actor seems to really relish his time with his wife and children, and even though fans don't hear about it very often, there are little snippets out there.

The actor said he enjoys his family life in London. He shared that he doesn't view himself as a famous person. He said, "Every time I come back to London, I love the feeling – it's my hometown and I'm very happy with my creature comforts. I'm actually quite a homely person although I can still enjoy being on the red carpet," according to Closeronline.co.uk.

When Cumberbatch's oldest son Christopher was a year old, he said that his family was really important to him and that was how he could get through the rollercoaster of fame. He said, "I have a new family and I have close friends who have known me since I first started and don't think of me like that! They're always happy to remind me who I am, which is good. I don't find it difficult to stay grounded."

A Great Dad

Cumberbatch is such a relatable actor because he speaks freely and honestly, even about wanting to have a bit of time to himself now that he's a father. According to The Huffington Post, he joked about his dad reading the newspaper in the bathroom as a way to get away from the family for a moment. He said, “I now know why my father took a broadsheet paper to the bathroom every morning. I get it Dad, I get it. Now you have to take all your devices with you so you can get your office work done as well. I’m sure it’s very hygienic.”

He has also shared that his parents did an amazing job with him and he wants to do the same with his children. He explained, “I can only hope to be half as good [a parent] as they were to me, to my children. I have their example to follow so I’ll be doing something right if I am.”

Bustle.com says that Cumberbatch often talked about how much he wanted to raise a family. He once said that it was a goal to have children before his 40th birthday. In an interview with The Guardian from 2012, he was asked about his "biggest disappointment" and his response was "Not being a dad by the age of 32."

A Third Baby?

News broke that Cumberbatch's wife was pregnant with their third child. But, according to The Altantic, there has been no news since then. Cumberbatch and Hunter have never talked about the third pregnancy or the baby, and no one knows when they were born or what their name is.

People think that the actor has created a completely fabricated family since they aren't seen out in public together very often, which must be difficult for him. Hello, Magazine quoted him talking about how he feels about the whole situation. He said, "There are people who believe that my wife is a PR stunt and my child is a PR stunt. I think really it's to do with the idea that the 'Internet's boyfriend' can't actually belong to anyone else but the Internet. 'It's impossible he belongs to anyone but me.' And that's what stalking is. That's what obsessive, deluded, really scary behavior is."

It's great that Benedict Cumberbatch is living the family life that he has always dreamed of as this has always been important to him. Even though he's private and fans would love to see more photos of his sweet family, he seems really happy and that's definitely all that matters.
