Ewan McGregor is going to have to summon up some of his Jedi skills he learned during his time in Star Wars to get through all the family drama in his personal life right now. Obi-Wan Kenobi is now divorced and has to start thinking about child support.
Recently, a lot that has come to light about the actor who brought us some of our favorite movies, specifically about his family life which has been shattered. Some of it is even dark and paints him in a bad light.
He had it all, and he blew it away by having an affair. McGregor was someone that was often looked at as a family man, but clearly, he never needed them.
His Family Life Is Complicated
McGregor met his now ex-wife, Eve Mavrakis, a French-Greek Jewish production designer, on the set of the crime drama, Kavanagh QC. They married just six months after they met, in 1995.
"If you spend too much time ‘working’ on your relationship, I don’t think it’s a relationship worth being in. With Eve, I’ve never had to work. We just have it," he told Men's Health in 2009.
Shortly after they had their daughters Clara and Ester adopted Jamyan from Mongolia, and then had their last daughter, Anouk, in 2011. McGregor and Mavrakis raised their girls very strictly and didn't spoil them. McGregor revealed that he'd never even bought them iPods. Bummer.
On the upside, McGregor did say that when he did play with them, he surrounded himself in their world and nothing else. He gave them his undivided attention.
It turns out he wasn't doing the same for his wife though. If you look beyond the apparent family man, you'll see that McGregor was rumored to have had a couple of flings with his co-stars in the past. He was seen with Inglorious Basterds actress, Melanie Laurent, and possibly even had an open marriage with Mavrakis.
The real zinger though is the comment McGregor made to Nylon Guys. "I don't live for my family," he said. That can't be good.
McGregor Shouldn't Have Done Fargo
When McGregor signed on to star in Fargo, he didn't know he'd meet his mistress, co-star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who was also married at the time. Soon rumors started that the pair were having an affair, and they were later spotted kissing in 2017.
Very shortly after it was confirmed, McGregor and Mavrakis split and later on filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, in 2018.
After the couple's split, Winstead also split from her husband, Riley Stearns. Then the new couple was able to make their relationship a little more public by going out together.
To make matters worse, McGregor thought thanking both Mavrakis and Winstead in his 2018 Golden Globe Awards acceptance speech would be a good idea. Awkward.
Trouble With His Daughters
There were rumors that McGregor's daughter, Clara, threw him shade and indirectly called him an asshole, in a post about her mother.
"Nah I keep her away from a–hole men who leave my goddess of a mother. :)" Clara wrote in a since-deleted comment.
What she meant by the comment was: "Let’s make one thing clear. I was not attacking my dad or calling him [an] a–hole. I was simply saying she deserves someone who isn’t one. F— tabloids. Don’t believe everything you read."
To make it worse, she commented on a picture of Winstead on social media, later on, and said, "Most beautiful and talented woman on earth? Oh man, y’all are delusional. The girl is a piece of trash x."
She later apologized and she and McGregor seem to be on good terms now.
There is also complicated drama involving how much McGregor should be paying Mavrakis in child support for their youngest daughter.
He allegedly pays his ex $50,000 a month in child support and Mavrakis also gets a share of his royalties from his films. But in court documents, McGregor is asking for reimbursements because he thinks he pays too much. Mavrakis, however, says she doesn't get enough. Whether or not they solved their feud over money remains to be seen.
We do know that the whole situation has been hard on Mavrakis. She's said she's deeply saddened.
Now, McGregor apparently lives with Winstead and he's still over the moon about her. He's been seen in public with his children as well, and he seems to be getting his life back together after all the drama. It's still sad that one of Hollywood's greatest actors couldn't be true to his wife though. But that's Hollywood for you.
