As anyone who is old enough to recall the 90s will no doubt remember, one of the decade’s most talked-about events was the criminal trial of O.J. Simpson. Put on trial for taking the life of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman in brutal fashion, it was an incredible fall from grace for Simpson. After all, long before he was best known for being at the center of the trial of the century, Simpson was a universally beloved and respected athlete who transitioned to Hollywood.

Over the years, O.J. Simpson’s murder trial has been turned into entertainment for the masses several times. While that is far from abnormal since so many people have turned into true crime junkies, it is still important to put things into the proper perspective. After all, for the people who knew and adored Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, nothing is entertaining about their loved one’s passing. In the years since O.J. Simpson went on trial for taking two people’s lives, that event has been the subject of so much conversation that it is hard to overstate. Of course, most people have very strong opinions about Simpsons’ guilt but since he was never convicted in a court of law, there is still a tiny bit of room for debate. However, there is one thing that everyone agrees upon, the Simpson children had a very difficult childhood. With that in mind, it begs an obvious question, what is O.J.’s relationship with his son Justin Ryan like today?

Justin’s Childhood

After his parents met in 1977, Nicole Brown Simpson and O.J. Simpson welcomed their daughter Sydney into the world in 1985, and their son Justin was born in 1988. Sadly, in 1994, Justin’s mother Nicole had her life brutally taken from her one night and his father was put on trial for the grisly crime. Of course, nobody should be forced to go through a trauma like that, especially at a young age.

Fortunately for Justin and Sydney Simpson, they were still loved by their maternal aunt and grandparents who from all accounts tried to give the kids the closest thing possible to a normal childhood. In 2019, Justin’s aunt Tanya Brown released a memoir titled “Finding Peace Amid the Chaos: My Escape from Depression and Suicide”. In her book, Tanya wrote about her efforts to make things fun for her niece and nephew. “When they come to our house we have fun. We don't need to rehash everything."

Finding Success

Given the fact that his parents were at the center of a massive controversy, it likely wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if Justin Simpson had trouble in school. After all, going to school can be hard for people who don’t have to deal with being associated with such a notorious event. Worse yet, when Justin was in school following his high school graduation, his dad got put on trial a second time for robbery and O.J. went to prison after being found guilty that time. Fortunately, in 2010, Justin graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurial and Small Business Operations.

Following his graduation, Justin Ryan Simpson became an agent for DHM real estate group. According to The Washington Note, Justin has a net worth of roughly $3 million but it is unclear where they came up with that number. That said, one thing appears to be clear, Justin still works for DHM real estate group to this day as he is still listed as an agent on their website.

Father And Son

In 1998, the parents of Nicole Brown Simpson took O.J. Simpson to court fighting for the custody of his kids Justin and Sydney. At that time, CBS News reported that “the children wrote the justices an emotional letter asking to stay with their father”. Ultimately, O.J. won in court following some appeals so he was able to keep custody of his kids.

In her aforementioned memoir, Tanya Brown wrote about how hard it was to pick the kids up from O.J. Simpson’s home and drop them off again following their visits. Despite that, she went through that process again and again after receiving pep talks from her mother. “I had to go and pick the kids up at the house where he lived, and I saw him. It was hard for me, but I did it. My mom gave me a pep talk, like, ‘You’re doing this for the kids.’ I entered the home, packed their bags. I went into his home and I saw the furniture I used to sit on when Nicole was alive.”

Despite how difficult interacting with the man she thought took her sister’s life was for her, Tanya wrote about the connection her niece and nephew have with their dad O.J. without a tinge of judgment. "I was so foggy, but I had to put on the face because this is their dad. They will always love their dad. I choose to respect that." With that quote in mind, it is obvious that Justin and O.J. Simpson remain close and that his aunt Tanya is a truly admirable person.
