When Christmas Eve comes around, people are in a merry mood, baking cookies and dreaming of eggnog or special cocktails. Many holiday plans have changed this year and news came out that the Kardashians called off their Christmas Eve Party this year as well.
The Kardashian-Jenner family is known for their holiday traditions, such as sending out cards, although in 2019, Kim Kardashian actually Photoshopped North into the photo because she wasn't behaving very well.
There may not be a Christmas Eve gathering in 2020, but it's still fun and festive to look back on what this party has looked like over the years.
What The Parties Are Like
While there's no party this December 24th, Kourtney dressed up in a holiday outfit and shared it on her Instagram account.
Kourtney Kardashian and Kim are the ones who usually host the party, as Kris Jenner began this special family party and then, in 2019, decided that her daughters should be in charge.
According to Us Weekly, Kris Jenner talked about on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and couldn't help but cry while discussing it. She said, "I want you guys to be able to do this until you’re my age and one of your kids takes over. That’s the joy. It’s just the thought of actually not doing at my house. … I’m getting emotional. It makes me sad. It does. It makes me so sad. It’s just that magic that you can make, and make everybody feel so amazing on one night a year. It’s that love.”
In 2019, the party was at Kourtney's house and she decorated for the season. According to Insider.com, the front entrance had candles and Poinsettias, along with a Christmas tree that was actually upside down. There was also a real live Elf on the Shelf as Kourtney asked someone to dress up as that famous and beloved Christmas character.
Of course, it does take some serious cash to make these holiday parties happen. People reported that when Kim and Kanye West threw the bash in 2018, it cost $1.3 million. The famous couple even hired a company to make fake snow. Ashley Greer, behind the company Atelier Ashley Flowers, told People, "It’s unclear how much of Kim and Kanye’s three-acre property was coated in the snow. But based on their online pricing of bags of snow, I would estimate that if they covered just one acre including installation and removal — yes, someone does have to pick that up — you are looking at a price tag of $350,000.”
Entertainment, Food And Gift Bags
There has been some great entertainment at these parties over the years. In 2018, John Legend performed, according to Us Weekly, and Paris Hilton was also in attendance. In 2019, Sia performed.
According to Us Weekly, Kim has talked about how she has fond memories of going to the party and being with her family but wanting to invite some of her own pals, too. She said, "We want it to be a place that we can just have fun and it’s all of our friends and definitely family and my mom’s friends, too. But a good mix of both so we can have a good time and really just enjoy each other.”
When Sia sang at the party in 2019, she said, “You guys are my favorite. I was looking to get an adult adoption from Kris, but we realized tonight that I could marry Rob! I didn’t realize there’s more than one way to become a Kardashian. Obviously, that’s what I’m trying to do," according to Glamour.com.
It sounds like food is an important part of the Kardashian Christmas Eve party as well, just like it is for anyone throwing a bash at this time of year.
Kourtney said that fries and turkey hot dogs are part of the food that the family has each year. Us Weekly reported that Kourtney said of the food, “There was a kid’s world with four booths, one was decorated like an old European marketplace at Christmas time, one with ‘Hot Dog On a Stick,’ which we have every year serving turkey corn dogs and french fries, a hot beverage booth serving matcha lattes, hot cocoa, and coffee drinks, and a candy bar with an artist who blows different shaped lollipops."
There are also gift bags for the guests, so it sounds like the Kardashians really put their hearts and souls into this annual party. According to Food Network, Kris Jenner was in charge of the gift bags in 2019 and those included a juicer for citrus, toaster, electric kettle, and Dolce & Gabbana x SMEG kitchen appliances. People said that the appliances were valued at over $100,000.
No Party In 2020
According to People, as of early December 2020, Khloe Kardashian shared that the family wouldn't be throwing their usual holiday party. Khloe said, "The Covid cases are getting out of control in CA. So we decided that we’re not doing a Christmas Eve party this year. It’s the first time we will not be having a Christmas Eve party since 1978 I believe. Health and safety first though! Taking this pandemic seriously is a must."
