In case you're not familiar, the movie, starring the likes of Isla Fisher, Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, and more, centers around two divorce mediators who find their true love in an extremely unusual place.

As noted first by Production Weekly, talks regarding the sequel have commenced, and  filming is set to begin in the next few months. Will the original cast members return? Will we see some new characters? When will it be released? Here's everything we can gather about Wedding Crashers 2, so far.

An idea for the sequel started all the way back in 2016, when Isla Fisher, the actress behind Gloria, dropped a big hint on Today that Wedding Crashers is getting a sequel. Plus, New Line Cinema also announced that there were two upcoming films in works back then, although the company did not namedrop any specific title.

"I shouldn't really announce it on morning television, but apparently there’s some talk of it, which is fun," the actress, who gained a nomination for Breakthrough Performance from the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, stated.

8 It'll Likely Pick Up Where The Previous Film Left Off

Although there haven't been any confirmed plot lines for Wedding Crashers 2, it's safe to expect that the movie will directly pick up where the first film left off. That means, we'll get to see a more mature version of John and Jeremy.

"The whole movie to me is a coming-of-age story of boys to men, where you go from your primary interests being sex, to your primary interest being in love. They want to have a deeper connection," director David Dobkin said of the first movie.

So the good news is, as mentioned, Wedding Crashers 2 is not a rumor anymore. The project has seen a green light from HBO Max, and as noted by NME, the filming process will begin this August in Puerto Rico. Given the location, could this mean the movie will be set during the couple's honeymoon?

However, Owen Wilson (John) also told Variety that the project is still in its early stage of development. Instead, he confirmed that the director has been cooking something special, although the progress hasn't advanced much farther than that.

"Some people are saying that you guys are going to be going in August, and that’s not right," the actor said.

5 Most Original Cast Members Will Likely Return

There wouldn't be a Wedding Crashers film without these main characters, so it's safe to say that most OG cast members will return. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn will play John and Jeremy, respectively. Rachel McAdams will wear Claire's shoes, while Isla Fisher will portray Gloria. However, it's still unknown whether Will Ferrell, Bradley Cooper, Christoper Walken, and Jane Seymour will return to the project.

4 The First Movie Was A Massive Commercial Success

The first film was a massive commercial hit. Commercially, Wedding Crashers made $288.5 million box office gross for New Line Cinema out of a $40 million budget. However, there are many cases where comedy sequels try to recapture the magic of the first film and miserably fail, which makes us even wonder how will Wedding Crashers 2 be received.

3 Yes, Vince Vaughn Will Also Be In This Movie

Yes, Vince Vaughn will also be in this film and reprise his role as Jeremy. In fact, he gave a little update last year to keep us excited about the project.

"I never went and made a sequel to a lot of these films at the time because it felt like we were just chasing a success," he said, "you’re sort of investigating things that I think are real in our lives, but the comedy is an over commitment to the absurd."

2 Will Daniel Craig Be In This Movie?

Interestingly, there was a talk to involve Daniel Craig, James Bond actor, in the sequel. The director reportedly worked on a script where the two crashes get intimidated by an "ultimate wedding crasher." Unfortunately, the script ended up never seeing the light of the day.

"We wanted Daniel Craig to be the ultimate wedding crasher, with his sexy body and his speedo, and the two guys would be incredibly threatened by him. He was like the next generation terminator of wedding crashing," director David Dobkin said on his Quora page.
