Maggie Lawson is well-versed in everything Psych-related. She has played her character, Juliet O'Hara, in the show for the last fifteen years, originating the role in 2006.

In Psych 3: This Is Gus, Lawson's character goes through an incredible journey rooted in sisterhood and vulnerability as the team gears up for Selene and Gus' shotgun nuptials. A major challenge is posed as it is revealed that Selene isn't fully separated from her estranged husband and they embark on a journey tracking him down.

Despite its high levels of comedy, Lawson feels as though Psych 3 has an underlying message of "openness." She told us, "So many things are changing, for everybody. I think with that sometimes relationships can either grow with it or you can kind of feel like you're on different paths. In this movie, everybody's growing and changing a lot. But there's also this, like openness and ease."

TheThings spoke with Maggie Lawson about her first reaction to the Psych 3: This Is Gus script and the hijinks her character gets into throughout the movie.

Maggie Lawson Shares Her First Impression Of Psych 3

Lawson had an emotional reaction to getting the call about Psych 3, partially attributed to its timing during the COVID-19 pandemic. She shared, "I was emotional. We'd all been stuck inside for a year." But that wasn't it, she was also in awe of the trajectory of the latest movie.

"If Psych is growing up, this is the one that feels the most grown-up, which means we've grown up this much. More grown-up is a good way to put it." She continued to say, "And also, I love having time with the ladies. It's just been such a fun new thing to play with. And Jazmyn [Simon] is just so wonderful. She was a piece we didn't even know was missing."

Continuing to gush about the new movie, Lawson pointed out, "One of the really interesting things I liked about this movie is that usually, we have a case that brings us into the story and brings us into the personal stuff and where we all are. But this was personal. It's a personal entrance into a case. Because it's dealing with a personal relationship and stuff like that. But I also thought was really neat and cool."

Summarizing it up, she concluded, "But my first impression was also just like, let's go."
