As one of the most popular and successful animated shows of all time, Family Guy has seen and done it all. Creator Seth MacFarlane worked on other shows before creating Family Guy, and once he went out on his own, he created a hit show that now costs millions of dollars for a single episode.

Over the years, the series has feuded with other shows, has dropped classic episodes, and has caused a wave on controversy. In fact, there was an episode so controversial, that it has yet to air on TV.

Let's take a look at the show and its banned episode.

'Family Guy' Is A Classic TV Show

January 1999 marked a momentous occasion on television, as the first episode of Family Guy premiered to eager audiences. The Simpsons had been the de facto adult animated show on TV for years, but Family Guy, along with shows like South Park, were giving the medium new life.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy took no time at all in finding a home in living rooms everywhere. The show was a stark contrast from other animated offerings, and this helped grow its audience in a hurry.

For 20 seasons and close to 400 episodes, Family Guy has been able to survive cancellations to turn into one of the most successful TV shows of all time. The voice cast remains as good as ever, the writing can still get it done, and the fans have continued to tune in after all these years.

Season 21 is confirmed to be taking place, so fans of the show had better gear up for what is sure to be another crazy season.

Thanks to being around for so long and never backing down from a topic, Family Guy has certainly landed in some hot water while on television.

'Family Guy' Had Several Controversial Moments

Whether it is taking down celebrities, talking about religion, or tackling darker moments in recent history, Family Guy has always done things their way. Because of this, the animated classic has managed to piss off a lot of people over time. Nevertheless, the controversies have not managed to entirely derail the long-running show.

Some of these controversial moments include the JFK Pez dispenser that gets shot at, the dumpster baby, the song "I Need A Jew," and the episode that poked fun at Michael J. Fox's Parkinsons diagnosis. Believe us when we say that this is just a small sample of the show's most controversial moments, and this small list alone makes it pretty easy to see why different groups of people have taken offense to the show.

Drumming up controversy is one thing, but having an entire episode banned is something else. In what should come as no surprise to people, Family Guy has had an episode that has not been seen on television due to its controversial content.

"Partial Terms of Endearment" Never Saw The Light Of Day

"Partial Terms of Endearment" was a season 8 episode of Family Guy that never saw the light of day on the small screen. The episode, which focused on abortion, was simply too controversial for both Fox and Adult Swim.

According to MacFarlane, "The pitch was something that came up in the writers’ room, I don’t remember exactly from whom. But Danny wrote the episode, and really did a very deft job. He referred to probably the best essay on abortion that I’ve ever read, from Carl Sagan’s book Billions and Billions, and he referenced that periodically throughout the course of the episode. And we pitched it to Fox. In open-minded, characteristic Fox fashion, they said, ‘O.K., you can make this episode, we reserve the right not to air it.’”

This certainly came as a blow to everyone that worked on the episode, and the news of its banishment had fans interested in seeing it.

As Kevin Reilly, former president of Fox, put it, "We don't censor Seth. It was a business decision. It was a fragile subject matter at a sensitive time."

MacFarlane took it all in stride, and the episode has remained off of the network ever since.

The episode did air overseas back in 2010, and eventually, it was released on DVD. It has a 7.4 rating over at IMDb, so clearly, there were plenty of people who weren't offended by the episode's touchy subject matter.
