The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Over the last decade or so, a total of 23 movies have been released, each full of captivating characters, big explosions, controversial warfare, a handful of laughs, fascinating superpowers, and full-body suits, some of which are probably a little too skin-tight (yeah, that's you, Peter Parker). Of course, one element which can't be swept under the rug is the romance - the tantalising, head-over-heels, back-and-forth, confusingly satisfying web of MCU love.
If you thought that the Hawkeye and Black Widow relationship was a little odd, or a kiss between Ant-Man and the Wasp just didn't feel right, then you've got another whole thing coming. Welcome to the beautiful, confusing, strange world of romantic MCU fan art!
21 BLACK PANTHER AND CAPTAIN AMERICA
The words needy and clingy get thrown a lot these days, to the point where their meaning seems to have worn off. However, take one look at our head-over-heels mini-me version of Captain America latching onto Black Panther's leg and it'll all come back to you. These two would be a force to be reckoned with... if the connection was mutual.
20 Loki and the Winter Soldier
While this could be fairly mistaken for a shot from How To Train Your Dragon, that's actually Loki clutching onto the Winter Soldier's waist with ultimate glee. It's certainly not the most obvious romantic pairing in the Marvel universe, but there's no such thing as a surprise when it comes to fan art.
19 LOKI AND PETER PARKER
While many would assume that the whimsical, chatty Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man would be a tad too immature and juvenile for a committed relationship at this point in his young life, clearly one superfan had other ideas. Normally we see Loki alongside Thor, but nope, not this time. Just don't get caught in Spidey's web, Loki.
18 LOKI AND TONY STARK
Boy oh boy, Loki - playing the field a little, are we? Unless the world's gone and flipped itself, Tony Stark is locked and loaded with Pepper Potts, so don't be a homewrecker. Although it does seem that our Iron Man is rather fond of Loki, so maybe it's our dear Pepper who needs to worry.
17 AGENT MARIA HILL AND BLACK WIDOW
As two of the most powerful female Marvel characters, each boasting a large personality, there's no doubt that Agent Maria Hill and Black Widow, side by side, would be as intimidating as any fan-designed couple on this list. Which one would wear the pants? Well, we're not too sure, to be honest.
16 QUICKSILVER AND HAWKEYE
The connection between these two Marvel fellas isn't just physical, it's electric! Of course, for this spark to actually eventuate, the pair would have to overcome the awkward past surrounding Black Widow, Quicksilver's sister. It's pretty clear that she took Hawkeye's fancy at some stages, not to mention the complicated sibling relationship either.
15 BLACK WIDOW AND HAWKEYE
Why such the long face, Hawkeye? You've locked in an eleven-out-of-ten girl, so you should really be a little more happy than this. Are you still thinking of that strange connection with Quicksilver? Or are you upset because Thor borrowed your arrows and hasn't given them back yet? Seriously, Hawkeye, learn to appreciate what you've got!
14 BLACK WIDOW AND HAWKEYE (Fairytale style)
That's more like it, Hawkeye! Treat Black Widow as she deserves to be treated - like a beautiful princess straight out of a wonderful fairy tale). In fact, based on this piece of fan art, the other Marvel boys can learn something about romance - shooting an arrow with a love note attached, now that's a cute touch.
13 THOR AND TONY STARK
When you're rocking 50-foot biceps, a flowing golden main, and a captivating presence like Thor is, fending off starstruck crushes is just part of the daily routine. It's not often the one crushing on him is his good buddy Tony Stark, AKA Ironman, however. C'mon Tony, how would Pepper feel about this?
12 HULK AND IRON MAN
Alright, Tony, now this is getting a little ridiculous. Can you please just pick a lover and stick to them? Even though the huge height differential might seem a problem at first, keep in mind that Iron Man has little boosters in his boots, so he'll be able to levitate up for a little peck on the cheek whenever he gets the urge.
11 FALCON AND CAPTAIN AMERICA
Oh, wow. Falcon and Captain America look like they're about to get down and dirty like no tomorrow. In reality, this pairing is definitely one of the most unlikely to actually eventuate, but hey, when you're immersed in the world of fan art, anything is possible. What's that saying about opposites attract?
10 IRON MAN AND WASP
Sorry, Ant-Man, you'll have to take a backseat for this one, because it looks like the sneaky devil that is Iron Man has swooped in and taken yet another Marvel character's partner! Seriously, Tony, you're on the prowl, aren't you? Having problems at home? Do you want to talk about it?
9 Captain America and Black Widow
The characters of 2016 musical Hollywood blockbuster, La La Land, until this moment were led by Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone). However, don't you think that it was be a heck of a lot more entertaining if it read Sebastian (Captain America) and Mia (Black Widow)? In this brilliant fan art, romance meets heroism in a scene unlike anything else.
8 BRUCE BANNER AND THOR
Thor might not be rocking the dazzling golden locks in this piece of fan art, but it seems like Bruce Banner doesn't seem to mind. This romance appears to be much more spiritual and emotional rather than just physical, and true fans should be able to appreciate the fact that, at least on face value, they seem happy. Thor, just please don't make Bruce angry...
7 BLACK WIDOW AND PEPPER POTTS
We're faced here with two genuinely beautiful Marvel character who, despite always remaining nothing more than friends while on screen, seem to have a deep romantic connection. Look, if Tony Stark has been running about the town checking out his options, it's only fair that Pepper should do so too, right?
6 Black Widow and Winter Soldier
No matter who we are, where we come from, and regardless of our age, it's always flattering when someone takes our hand and asks for a dance. Well, that idyllic fantasy is exactly what one artistic fan actually put onto canvas, as Black Widow and Winter Soldier take the dancefloor, hand in hand.
5 Captain America and Iron Man
Oh Tony, what on Earth will we do with you? It seems like you just can't keep your feet in one place, and we feel pretty bad for Pepper Potts as a result. Also, what do you think you're doing with that right hand, mister? Sidebar: What takes this piece of romantic Marvel fan art to the next level is the detailed watercolor finish that the artist has glazed on.
4 DRAX AND MANTIS
It seems that Mantis just couldn't hold herself back from the rock-hard, chiseled abs of Drax, and who's to blame her? This fan-imagined relationship certainly is the strangest one that we'll see today, since they do share plenty of laughs throughout their films, although imagining what their kids would look like is enough to send anyone into a headspin.
3 BLACK WIDOW AND CAPTAIN MARVEL
The saying goes that blondes have more fun. In this scene, however, it seems as though our favourite Brie Larson superhero isn't having the best of times. Perhaps she's just a bit nervous having not ballroom danced in a while, too busy saving the world and all that jazz. These two would make a serious power couple, there's no doubt about that.
2 CAPTAIN MARVEL AND SPIDER-MAN
Watch out, Black Widow, because our beloved Captain is apparently shopping around for real estate before buying. We're not too sure what she sees in Spider-Man - could it be the allure of mystery, not knowing which web-slinger hides behind the mask, or could she have an odd fantasy for the arachnids? In fan art, it's all possible.
