Farrah Abraham took to social media to commemorate the anniversary of the death of her ex-boyfriend, and Sophia's father, Derek Underwood. However, what sounds like a nice gesture was not received as such. Fans were quick to lash out at Abraham for being insincere, and accusing her of trying to capitalize on his death for her own benefit.
While most of Farrah's life was on display with the taping of Teen Mom, and her own incessant desire to continuously post details about her life, the one missing element from her rise to fame were the details surrounding her involvement with her ex-boyfriend, Derek Underwood. The two were not on good terms at the time of his death, and fans are furious with Farrah for posting about his memory in a manner that suggests she is using her name for her own personal gain.
The Controversial Post
According to the Fandom page for Teen Mom, Farrah and Derek were estranged from one another at the time of his death, with several media outlets reporting that Farrah had not revealed to him that she was pregnant at all. The two had not been on speaking terms for several months leading up to his death. Derek was tragically killed in a car crash, two months before Sophia was born.
What could to some people be seen as a memorial video that captured the essence and memory of a beloved boyfriend and father that was gone too soon, is instead being perceived as a dig for fame. Many believe Farrah is trying to attract more attention to herself and that she's exploiting Derek Underwood's memory in order to do so.

Fans are disgusted with what they perceive to be an arrogant, selfish, and tasteless display of artificial emotion.
The comments on her post were harsh, and plentiful. One fan wrote; "Get my dude a decent headstone then if he meant so much to you!" and "Still find it weird you slammed him on 16 and pregnant and wanted nothing to do with him and then when he dies say you love him." Another fan wrote; "Clean up his headstone already. Poor guy meant nothing to you except a few likes home girl And it is obvious," and someone else said "He would be disappointed!!!"

It's all purely to try and get sympathy or market yourself in some way to get a TV or book deal about coping with bereavement. You hated each other when he died. You didn't even tell him you were pregnant. You spent years giving him a bad name and even went through the courts with his Mom. If he was alive now, you'd have made his life a living nightmare and made up lies to stop him from seeing Sophia. But now the last couple of years you put on this huge charade of sitting round his grave with Sophia and filling her head with bull**!t about how close you were, and how wonderful your relationship was, and how much you miss him. If it was sincere, then why post it so much?"
