That said, from the outside looking in, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow never seemed like an obvious pair. However, according to reports, when the two celebrities first met they quickly bonded over their mutual love of music and the fact that both were married to Brits at the time. No matter what the two stars bonded over, the fact remains that they were close pals for a while.
The Surprising Split
At the height of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow’s friendship, the two actors could regularly be seen laughing together at major events. As a result, most fans of the pair were shocked to learn that the two stars had come to an impasse that was so serious that they no longer were friends. In a strange turn of events, the reason why Paltrow and Madonna’s friendship came to an end is related to their shared dedication to fitness.
During the mid-2000s, Madonna hired a personal trainer named Tracy Anderson who she took on the road with her for two years. After that time together, Madonna decided to cease her relationship with Anderson. Since most people are upset when they lose their job, it would have made all the sense in the world if Anderson was upset with Madonna when she broke off their relationship. However, another one of Anderson’s famous clients seems to have been more outraged.
Going Public
Since Tracy Anderson isn’t a public figure, her feelings on getting let go by Madonna are unknown. However, as anyone who has followed Gwyneth Paltrow in recent years should already know, the famed actor generally doesn’t stay quiet when something bothers her. For example, in the aftermath of Madonna and Anderson going their separate ways, Paltrow let her feelings on the situation and the queen of pop well known.
In the aftermath of the Madonna and Tracy Anderson drama, Paltrow posted a blog about her anger at Madonna on her Goop website in which she didn’t refer to the queen of pop by name. In the blog, Paltrow asked for advice on what to do “when you don’t like a friend anymore” before writing that her pal left her feeling “drained, empty and belittled”.
Of course, some people may want more proof that Gwyneth Paltrow broke off her friendship with Madonna over Tracy Anderson. Fortunately, in April 2010 Paltrow called out Madonna by name during an interview with The Telegraph and she outlined her problems with her past pal. Early on in the interview, Paltrow admitted that she “can be mean” before elaborating by saying that she “can cave into gossip. I can ice people out and I definitely harbor revenge”. After saying that she tries to let that anger go, Paltrow still went on to smack talk Madonna when the subject of Tracy Anderson was brought up during the interview. "Yeah, it's good that [Tracy] doesn't train Madonna anymore. It was too much. She keeps people waiting — it takes up your whole day." Considering how close Madonna and Paltrow used to be, the fact that Gwyneth would badmouth her former pal like that says it all.
