Earlier this week, Kehlani sat down for an interview with The Breakfast Club, revealing that Nick Cannon had a huge helping hand in the singer’s success.

Apparently, not a lot of fans knew that Cannon played a detrimental role in the “Can I” star’s life — but their connection goes way back to Kehlani’s teenage years when she took part in the NBC competition series America’s Got Talent in 2011.

At the time, Kehlani was part of a band called POPLYFE, who ended up coming in third place — and while there seemed to be high hopes for the group after the show ended, the group later disbanded, but Kehlani remained in touch with Cannon.

The latter, according to the mother of one, reached out after hearing about the band’s disbandment, and much to her surprise, Cannon was putting together a group of his own.

Kehlani gave the opportunity a shot, but she quickly realized that she wanted to be a solo artist, so during another conversation with the father of seven, she thanked him for the offer but it simply wasn’t for her.

The TV producer then decided he was going to invest into Kehlani’s career by offering her everything she needed to get her music out, starting with her own apartment, a car, and space to record her songs, which Kehlani says she’ll forever be grateful for.

Judging by fans’ reactions on Twitter, many were completely taken aback with how supportive Cannon has been to the 26-year-old.

"He changed my life forever. That's family to me," Kehlani expressed, noting that she isn’t the only artist who has been supported by Cannon in the music industry.

"So when there's all these conversations, and I've been waiting to say this somewhere, but while there's all these conversations that's picking him apart and like, people can call him corny and people can call him whatever ... he silently has changed the lives of so many people. He asked for nothing in return ... you would have no idea."

Kehlani, who once dated R&B singer PartyNextDoor, revealed during the interview that she’s been working on her third album, Blue Water Road, which she hopes to release in December.

Her sophomore record, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, was released in May 2020.
