Earlier this week, the first photo of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana debuted on social media, and fans can’t get over the astonishing resemblance.

Last year, it was announced that Stewart would portray Diana in the upcoming biopic Spencer. Originally, Stewart's casting was met with criticism, with complaints ranging from the fact that she's not a British actress to issues with her credentials..

Others were unable to picture Stewart playing the late royal, not seeing any real resemblance between the two. However, after the first snapshot of Stewart in costume was made public, all questions about how she could look like Princess Diana were put to rest.

On Saturday, additional photos of Stewart on set in Schlosshotel Kronberg, Germany, surfaced online. Sheis shown wearing Diana’s signature blonde hairstyle with a cream blouse. The outfit is identical to the one Diana wore on Christmas Day in 1993.

Stewart’s fans couldn’t stop talking about how much the actress resembles Diana. Some took to Twitter to express their utter shock at the uncanny similarities:

Spencer will focus on the weekend Princess Diana spent with the royal family during the Christmas holiday at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. During that time, she decided to leave her husband, Prince Charles.

"Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life," Stewart wrote in a statement. "It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her."

The film is set to be produced and directed by Pablo Larraín, best known for projects such as Jackie and Neruda. In an interview with Deadline, Larraín shared his elation at having Stewart on board for the biopic.

“I’ve seen movies from Kristen that are so diverse it’s incredible, showing different layers and her diversity and strength as an actress,” he said.
