Fans are reminiscing about the Friends nostalgia and what it was like to see their favorite stars on the set again. There were many moments of the reunion that are now fan favorites... and there's something that nobody has been able to shake. Matthew Perry's slurred speech and strange demeanor have been chalked up to emergency dental work, but fans are simply not buying it.
Perry has publicly struggled with addiction in the past, and fans believe that these woes continue to follow him and haunt his life today.
It's evident that social media fans aren't buying the dentistry excuse.
Matthew Perry's Dental Work Excuse
As soon as teasers to the reunion show aired, fans noticed there was something a bit 'off' about Matthew Perry, and the rumor mill started to turn. When the show aired, it became clear to fans that dentistry was absolutely not the issue that Perry was contending with.
Fans are looking back in time and making comparisons to all the different instances in which he displayed this slurred speech and apparent state of slowed response time and relative confusion.
All signs are pointing to addiction and substance abuse, rather than a sore tooth that needed repair.
There are too many coincidences for fans to ignore. For instance... it was tough to hide that blank stare...
Fans Aren't Fooled
Fans aren't fooled by this cover-up, and they're calling out Perry's issues on social media.
One fan wrote in to say; "Go look on his cameo examples on cameo.com. Did he also have emergency teeth procedures all of those days too? It’s an obvious cover up. I get it, I wouldn’t want people knowing either. It’s like what’s worse, have him on the reunion show (with very few speaking moments) or have him absent. I think absent would have caused more of a stir. His PR team probs thought this was the lesser of two evils."
Others wrote in to say; "I'm not buying it at all!! He could of got dental work the day before or after!!! Lies all lies," as well as; "this is addiction, look at his face, that says it all." Another person wrote; "classic addiction taking its toll on him and slowing him down in his old age," which was followed by "tooth issues don't make his eyes stare and look absent like that."
Some people commented that Perry had exhibited slurred speech in the past as well, to which one fan replied; "Yes, he has had slurred speech before, and that was because he was drunk and high, just like now."
