Jennette's character, Sam, was a loud, sarcastic troublemaker, who loved to eat, a lot. She quickly became a fan favorite on the Nickelodeon sitcom as the main character, Carly Shay's, right-hand woman.

The show ran for five seasons from September 8, 2007, to November 23, 2012. The reboot was a surprise to many but after Netflix streamed the first two seasons back in February 2021, it became a hit all over again.

Jennette McCurdy made the character of Sam very spunky, overcoming the whole "dumb blonde" stereotype that was often portrayed on television. Her character was assertive, strong-willed, and stood up for herself and her friends. She always told it like it was and never held back in situations.

McCurdy took a very basic character and created a multilayered one because of how good of an actress she was.

McCurdy stepping away from the show and acting as a whole due to her mental health exuded the same brave behavior her character portrayed on the show.

"and no i haven’t watched it i don’t have paramount+ and while i have copious amounts of respect for jennette mccurdy’s decision not to return, i don’t think i’d enjoy the show without her," wrote @wtafkaitlyn. "but good on her for not returning, the shit she dealt with while on icarly is insane."

"It was difficult," Jennette said of the decision. "I didn't know what to do with myself when I didn't have things that always dictated my identity around anymore." Jennette added that she has found her place in writing and directing, and no longer feels like she's "living a lie."

Even though Jennette has spoken multiple times on the fact that she has quit acting for good, fans seem to believe otherwise. Allegedly, three of the writers from the reboot just followed her on Instagram and she is apparently in negotiations for the upcoming season of the iCarly reboot.
