Hearts broke on Twitter last night after a certain New Zealand singer began trending on the social media platform. Fans of the Alt-Pop sensation Lorde went digging for news of new music, hoping that she was finally going to release her anticipated third album - but unfortunately, their hopes were dashed.

The only thing fans would stumble upon in their excited searches was that the HBO drama Euphoria used her song, "Liability" from her sophomore album Melodrama as the intro for the show's episode, "Part 2: Jules."

Several Twitter users expressed their frustration and sadness when they realized they'll have to continue to patiently wait for the songstress's newest record.

The "Royals" songstress hasn't released a studio album since 2017, leaving fans wondering and even, at times, concerned for the star, after she disappeared from social media for three years. According to Insider, the singer left the music scene and social media after she wrapped up her world tour back in November 2018.

After three years, Lorde broke her social media hiatus to tell her fellow New Zealanders to vote in the election in October 2020. She said, "Do it for our beautiful country and for me. And next year I'll give you something in return."

Fans took that promise as the singer hinting at a third record. It turned out they were right, after Lorde shared an email she wrote in 2019 admitting that she was working on her next album. She said: "This work is so f---ing good, my friend. I am truly jazzed for you to hear it."

Lorde also shared that her highly anticipated album would be inspired by her trip to Antarctica in 2019, according to NME. She also divulged that it's named after the continent, stating, "I actually decided on the album name right around that trip."

So, though fans may be disappointed this time, they shouldn't have to wait much longer - as long as all goes as planned, 2021 is the year Lorde gives her anxious fans new music.
