Did Madonna lie about recently speaking with Britney Spears?

That’s what fans on Twitter seem to think after reacting to an interview where the Queen of Pop was asked about her thoughts on Spears’ conservatorship ordeal.

Madonna was at the premiere of her documentary concert film Madame X when she walked the red carpet and was gracious enough to partake in a few chats with the press.

Entertainment Tonight's Lauren Zima was at the New York event, held at The Edition Hotel Times Square, earlier this week, and she certainly didn’t hold back to ask Madonna what she made of Spears’ ongoing fight for freedom.

When asked what she made of the entire situation, Madge claimed she had spoken to her “Me Against The Music” collaborator earlier in the day, saying she was “just checking in on her, and congratulating her on her marriage. Or her pending marriage.”

"I love her," the Pop icon concluded.

Judging by the response from fans on Twitter, they weren’t convinced that Madonna was being truthful about her supposed conversation with Spears earlier in the day.

Spears announced her engagement to her longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari earlier this month after months of legal drama involving her father Jamie Spears, who she accused of “conservatorship abuse” in a bombshell court hearing over the summer.

Earlier this week, a new Hulu documentary, titled Controlling Britney Spears, revealed how the latter’s every move was allegedly monitored by the security firm her father had hired to protect his daughter.

But apparently, security was doing more than just protect Spears; from supplying her with drugs to recording her intimate moments in her bedroom via a hidden microphone, to say that the singer was practically living like a prisoner would be an understatement.

Alex Ylasov, who formerly worked for Black Box Security from 2012 to 2021, revealed, “Britney wanted to get an iPhone … and that was a big deal. Everybody was worried.

“[My boss] Edan [Yemini] approached me and asked me, “Is there any monitoring services for an iPhone that you are aware of?” And I’m like, “What do you mean?” And he’s like, “Well, parental controls. Is there any way you can put parental controls on an iPhone?

And that’s when Edan explained to me that Britney’s communication is monitored for her own security and protection.”
