Not everyone is a fan of Jason Derulo. In fact, nothing has made that clearer than the fact that the 'Jason Derulo falling down the stairs' meme just won't die. But what is it about the artist and TikTok star that some fans are starting to get annoyed by?

Fans Hate Jason Derulo's Bad Habit

No, it's not eating too much sugar in his TikTok videos, or 'destroying' Alicia Keys' fingers in a prank vid. Fans are annoyed by something Derulo does with his music, specifically the way he sings certain parts of his songs.

Figured it out yet? Fans (and, admittedly, critics) absolutely hate that Jason says his own name in nearly every one of his songs.

To be fair, he's not the only artist that does it. But he's one of few, and according to Redditors, listeners of any variety of music just don't want to hear artists literally singing their own praises.

Other Artists Have The Same Bad Habit

Though some Redditors joked that it would be hilarious if other, more esteemed artists had the same habit as Derulo.

They imagined how entertaining it would be for Barry Manilow, for example, to have started every one of his hits with an emphatic (and expletive-filled) phrase that included something like 'It's Barry Manilooooooow.'

Another critic ribbed at Jason, too, suggesting "M to the -ozartttt yeahh" as an entry into an instrumental track.

On a more serious note, though, tons of artists do this, and fans want it to stop.

Everyone from DJ Khaled ("we the best") to T-Pain ("nappy boy") to Snoop Dogg (literally Snoop Doggy Dogg) has a catchphrase of some sort in their songs. Even Lady Gaga has been guilty of this apparent no-no.

There's A Strategy Behind This Bad Habit, Though

The thing is, Derulo's bad habit is honestly amazing branding. They might have heard Jason Derulo's music, but most of the Redditors who are truly annoyed by him announcing his entrance in every song don't really listen to him in the first place.

And yet, they know his name, his sound, and that they 'don't like him' for whatever reason.

This just reinforces how apparently effective his trick is! After all, if Jason's name is the first thing he says on each song, he's making an impression, whether good or bad. Even if the listener changes the radio station immediately, they've still heard his song and are being 'conditioned' to recognize his tunes.

As one commenter hilariously pointed out, "Even just reading his name in my head makes it come out all sing-song-y..." And clearly, it's paid off for the artist, even as fans rib him so hard, because his net worth just keeps growing.
