Writer and Actor Joe Truglio is known for providing comic relief as the lovable and dorky character Charles Boyle on the hit show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. However, he recently announced that he is pivoting to the horror genre, and fans on Reddit are excited to see what he has in store.

Truglio is making his directorial debut with Outpost, a psychological horror film which he described to Deadline as a "nightmare on a mountain, about a woman fighting demons - and the demons are winning."

He announced the cast on July 8th in an Instagram post, and it's an impressive one. Beth Dover (who played Linda in Orange is The New Black) and Dallas Walker (who played Milton in The Walking Dead) will be joined by other notable TV stars in Truglio's film.

Fans on Reddit are excited for the film, as indicated by their comments.

This isn't Truglio's first time behind the camera, though. He directed one episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, titled "The Bimbo," in season six. The series finale of the popular series is set to premiere next month.

Many compared Tuglio's genre change to Jordan Peele's similar move from comedy to horror.

After being a cast member on Mad TV and creating the comedy sketch Key & Peele, Peele made a successful genre switch with his debut horror film, Get Out. The film was very well-received by critics and audiences, alike. The Atlantic even called it "a masterpiece." Peele achieved similar praise for his second horror film, Us, starring Lupita Nyong'o.

Of course, only time will tell if Truglio will share similar success.

Truglio has created an Instagram account dedicated entirely to the film. On the account, he has documented location scouting and explained his new direction in the entertainment industry, stating that he has been "enthralled by stories of terror and madness" for a long time.

Truglio made a name for himself as one of the original cast members of MTV's The State. He gained further popularity after starring in the cult film, Wet Hot American Summer, as well as other films such as The Pineapple Express and Hitch. He has starred as Charles Boyle on Brooklyn Nine-Nine since 2013.

Production for Outpost is scheduled to begin on July 11th. No expected release date has been announced as yet.
