Spoilers for Loki episode 6 below!

The anticipated season finale of Loki saw the God of Mischief and Sylvie; a variant of himself stepping into the Citadel at the end of time. What comes next includes a metaphor about the TVA's director while Miss Minutes takes on a more mysterious role...and the variants find themselves before the one who has been pulling all the strings.

We're then introduced to the MCU's next big villain, an all-knowing man with a metaphor for a name and quite a story to tell. "He who remains" is also dressed in purple and bears a striking resemblance to Kang the Conqueror from the comic books, but doesn't explicitly address that anyway.

Meet He Who Remains

The director reveals himself as a scientist from eons ago, who discovered alternate worlds and unintentionally started a multiversal war, where different variants of himself destroyed other universes in an attempt to save their own.

He details the countless "evil" versions of him that exist in other universes who are waiting to get through — which they would have done if it wasn't for the TVA. Is it true? Is he bluffing? Our fan-favorite variants might be the same person, but they have contrasting. views about it.

The director offers Loki and Sylvie to take over his role and run the TVA, so the Sacred Timeline can be maintained. Unfortunately, Sylvie betrays Loki by sending him back to the TVA and stabbing the director whose last words are cryptic as ever.

"See you soon," he says, before the final chaotic minutes ensue where we discover that Mobius has forgotten Loki, the Sacred Timeline has been spectacularly breached and there's a massive statue of "He who remains" back at the TVA - and it came out of nowhere.

While fans regard Jonathan Majors as "perfect casting" for future Kang, they also "love how marvel boiled down one of the most powerful marvel villains into just some goofy guy."

Others are connecting the pieces between Loki and Marvel's future projects, particularly Chloé Zhao's Eternals. Fans believe the only reason the superheroes are being introduced in the MCU after their existence being canon is that they're meant to help stop the multiverse war.

"the eternals said they didn't interfere until now. they weren't talking about thanos, they were talking about the multiverse," a fan wrote to Twitter.

Marvel fans are certain the only superhero who can beat Kang the conqueror (when he arrives) is Dr. Strange. The forthcoming film is literally titled Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and is expected to feature the Secret Wars from the comic books.

Loki has set up the future of the multiverse in the MCU in the most exciting way possible, and Marvel fans are thrilled about the endless possibilities of Phase 4.
