On January 14, 2001, a show featuring a Puerto Rican teenager aspiring for stardom had the whole world singing: "TAIIIIIINAAAAA, TAIIIIIIINAAAA."

The hit Nickelodeon show followed Taina Morales and her friends as they attended a performing arts high school in New York.

Fans instantly fell in love with the diverse cast and infectious theme song. This year Taina celebrates it's 20th year.

For viewers who were only 11 or 12 at the time the show premiered, fans couldn't help but feel a tad old.

Despite the immense popularity of the show, Taina was only commissioned for two seasons.

The lead actress who played Taina, Christina Vidal, recently spoke to Metro.co.uk.

"I still can’t believe I ever had that incredible opportunity, the honor of being able to star on that show and everything it represented," the 39-year-old admitted.

"I knew it was a big deal at the time but I certainly didn’t realize what an impact it would have on people. It’s strange to think it’s been 20 years but also it feels like another life."

The child star who once appeared opposite Michael J. Fox in Life With Mikey, explained how fans are still inspired by starring role as a aspiring performer.

She recalled: "What a great honor I had in God placing me on that show. I still have people coming up to me saying, 'I got into the business because of you' or 'I decided to try out for that dream job because of this show.' I had no idea the show would have that power."

The now mom-of-two credited the show’s popular theme song for keeping the series alive in the heart of fans.

"Even now, I have friends who will send me videos or FaceTime me because they’re with someone who remembers the show and loves the theme tune. It happens all the time and I love that. I love it because it’s such a sweet nostalgia."
