The Morning Show season two has finally given fans a sneak peek into what's next for the characters played by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

We've left Alex (Aniston) and Bradley (Witherspoon) having a moment à la Network on live television after Alex had finally come to terms with her complicity in ignoring the sexual misconduct perpetrated by her former co-anchor, Mitch (Steve Carell). In the trailer for season two, the two actresses seemingly hint at their Friends characters in a passing reference.

In the trailer for the second season, UBA network honcho Cory (Billy Crudup, who won an Emmy for his performance in the role), goes to retrieve Alex from the snowy house at which she’s in exile.

“You are the only thing that can save us,” he begs, laughing at his own dramatic pronouncement. From there, the workplace machinations ratchet up, with Alex’s return threatening Bradley’s ascent.

“I feel like they’re bringing in my big sister to clean up my mess,” she says in what sounds like a Friends reference.

Witherspoon, in fact, played Jill Green, the younger sister to Aniston’s Rachel, in two episodes of the iconic 1990s sitcom.

Witherspoon And Aniston Pull Pranks On Each Other On Set

While the two actresses don't play sisters this time around, they surely feel really close on set. Last year, Witherspoon shared a prank she pulled on Aniston on the set of season two.

Witherspoon appears to be in character even behind the scenes, as she approaches Aniston for an interview, holding a very unusual microphone.

“Hi, this is Bradley Jackson and I’m live on the set of The Morning Show, waiting for Bradley… I mean, sorry, Alex Levy,” Witherspoon says, holding a lint roller as a microphone.

Aniston screams at her, caught by surprise. The two start improvising, proving the sisterly, love-hate chemistry of their Friends days is still there. Aniston and Witherspoon previously worked together as part of the legendary Green sisters trio — together with Dead To Me star Christina Applegate — on the popular comedy.

The Morning Show debuted on AppleTv+ in November 2019 and consisted of a ten-episode season. An adaptation of Brian Stelter's book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, the series was developed before the #MeToo movement rose to prominence after the Harvey Weinstein scandal, but was reworked to include it in the storyline.

Alongside Witherspoon and Aniston, who also serve as executive producers, the cast features the aforementioned Carell in a controversial role, Billy Crudup, Bel Powley, Mark Duplass, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, among others.

AppleTV+ ordered two seasons of the show, for a total of twenty episodes. Production for the second series began at the end of February 2020 but was halted in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
