The two Spider-Man co-stars were seen getting cozy on July 3 after having maintained their relationship was friendly for years. Some MCU fans have been asking for an off-screen romance — paired with that onscreen between Holland’s Peter Parker and Zendaya’s Michelle “MJ” Jones — and it seems that their wish has been granted.
However, some are convinced the news of a romance is too good to be true and that this could be nothing but a PR stunt to promote a new Spider-Man movie.
Zendaya And Tom Holland: True Romance Or PR Stunt?
The two first shared the screen on the 2017 movie Spider-Man: Homecoming. They both reprised their roles in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home where Peter and MJ finally reveal their feelings for each other.
As a third Spider-Man movie, No Way Home, is about to be released, it looks like Peter and MJ’s romance extends to real life too.
The images of them kissing — and adorably smiling afterward — have sent Twitter in a meltdown. Nonetheless, some fans think the relationship isn’t real.
An anonymous source reached out to celebrity gossip page DeuxMoi with a picture of Holland and Zendaya together on a dinner date. The two actors are pictured holding hands while sitting across each other.
“Unfortunately this whole tomdaya thing is pr,” one fan maintains.
When the Instagram user was asked about the reason they don’t buy the romance, they simply said that “anyone with a brain that knows how pr works” would say so too.
Fans Are On Board With The Romance, PR Stunt Or Otherwise
While the majority of MCU fans seem to be invested in the relationship, some skeptical commenters think the actors’ PR teams are behind the romance.
“The No Way Home PR team after Tom Holland and Zendaya broke the internet,” one fan wrote, sharing a GIF of a satisfied-looking Octavia Spencer in movie Ma.
“zendaya and tom holland date without it being pr challenge go! fingers crossed tbh theyre so cute,” was another comment.
“yes Tom Holland and Zendaya may be PR but what I don’t know doesn’t hurt me,” someone else wrote.
“Ok but Zendaya and Tom Holland are too cute. Good for them. Yes, it might just be PR, but they seem to be having fun and are comfortable with one another. Wish them the best,” another fan noted.
