The in memoriam section in an awards show is often a somber occasion, as fans remember the stars who have passed away.

But at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted they created what could be only described as "an-anti in memoriam" segment. Instead of remembering the dead, they paid tribute to some of the most salacious moments of the past year.

Among the names and incidents mentioned were talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Scott Disick, and deported Real Housewife of New Jersey star Joe Giudice.

"I'd now like to take a somber-slash-awkward moment to acknowledge all that we've lost in the world of unscripted entertainment this year," host Nikki Glaser began, as the show cued up a parody-style montage of black and white images.

The VT mocked Ellen after many reports surfaced about her show's "toxic workplace," as an image of the talk show host read: "Ellen's reign of terror 2003-2021."

Ellen announced last week she was canceling her show amid low ratings. This season, her 19th, is her last after 18 years on air.

The 63-year-old has dismissed claims that she ran a toxic work environment.

The allegations of misconduct emerged first in a BuzzFeed article last July when several male senior producers were also accused of sexual harassment.

Ellen was accused of fostering an environment that tolerated bullying and one in which she reigned supreme. Staffers described ridiculous rules she allegedly imposed like not being allowed to eat meat or fish at lunchtime.

Ellen staff also alleged they weren't allowed to speak to her or look at the talk show host. They also claimed if they had to speak to her for any reason, they had to chew gum first because she has a "sensitive nose."

One employee reported racial micro-aggressions, while another said they were fired after taking medical leave following a suicide attempt.

Fans thought MTV's "In Memoriam" tribute to Ellen was hilarious and went online to share their views.

"Brilliant... The former supposed Comedian will be seething.. Ms Nice supposedly has been exposed!" one person wrote online.

"GOOD BYE! Enjoy LONG VACATION from WORK," a second added.

"I actually used to like watching a few segments on Ellen while flipping the channels, but ever since all that came out, I just skip right over it. I couldn't get over the whole you can't make eye contact with her in passing! Like, Eww! Humble yourself," a third chimed in.
