Fast And Furious 9: 20 Wild Fan Theories That Actually Make Sense

Today, “Fast & Furious 9” is, undoubtedly, one of the most highly anticipated films. We’re talking about the latest movie from a franchise that has already raked in more than $5 billion in the worldwide box office, according to a report from Business Insider.

If you think about it, there are a lot of reasons to keep watching ‘Fast & Furious’ movies. For starters, it comes with some crazy high-speed, high-octane action. Aside from that, it also features a stellar cast led by Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster and at one point, the late Paul Walker.

“Fast & Furious 9” is set to be released in 2020. At the moment, not much is known about the plot of the movie as shooting gets underway. However, that’s never stopped fans from coming up with theories about the upcoming film. Here are some that are pretty wild:

As you may recall, the first ‘Fast & Furious’ film featured Walker’s Brian O’Connor driving a 1995 Toyota Supra as he tried to take on Diesel’s Dominic Toretto in a night street race. O’Connor may have lost the race, but the car still captured a lot of attention and excitement.

According to a report from Motor 1, it seems the franchise is making an ode to Walker’s character and his car by featuring the 2020 Supra in the upcoming film.

19 Cipher is planning something worse

via usmagazine.com

Recently, actress Charlize Theron herself confirmed that her villainous character, Cipher, would be returning for the franchise’s latest installment. Taking to Instagram, she also made it clear that Cipher would be rocking a shorter and edgier hairstyle on the big screen.

In “The Fate of the Furious,” Dom worked with frenemies Deckard and Owen Shaw to rescue his baby from Cipher’s grasp. Cipher’s evil plans unraveled in grand fashion last time and we’re willing to bet she’s determined to get even with Dom and his crew.

18 Hobbs is preparing to make an exit

via inverse.com

For years, there have been multiple reports that Diesel and Johnson have a pretty serious feud going on. As you know, Johnson hasn’t been in the franchise for as long as Diesel has. Nonetheless, Johnson’s character, Hobbs, has become a prominent character in the ‘Fast & Furious’ films and its recent offshoot, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.”

Despite this, Johnson told MTV earlier this year that the plan is for him to sit out “Fast & Furious 9.” This has led to some speculation that Johnson may be exiting.

17 We may see Monica Fuentes again

via madeinatlantis.com

Do you still remember Eva Mendes’ character from 2003’s “2 Fast 2 Furious”? If you need a little refresher, Mendes once played the role of Monica Fuentes. Fuentes was a U.S. Customs agent who had gone undercover as a dealer and assistant to drug lord Carter Verone. In the movie, Fuentes’ shared a lot of chemistry with O’Connor and fans have long been wondering if she would ever return to the franchise again. Well, here’s hoping she would make a cameo in “Fast & Furious 9.”

16 Han and Elena will be remembered

Over the course of the franchise, certain character deaths have left fans shaken to their core. Among these are the onscreen demise of Sung Kang’s Han Lue and Elsa Pataky’s Elena Neves. There are fans who argue that the previous’ movies plot lines did little to honor these characters’ memories. And they believe that in “Fast & Furious 9,” this will finally be done.

15 There will be justice for Han

via inverse.com

As you may recall, Han’s ‘Fast & Furious’ run came to an end in 2006’s “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” when he was killed by Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. And according to ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ writer Chris Morgan, justice for Han is bound to happen. He told EW, “Justice for Han is owed. It’s something we have discussed for a very long time and want to give the right due to. I think the audience will be satisfied and should know it’s coming.”

14 Han will return

via latimes.com

Perhaps, Morgan’s comments have got fans suspecting that Han would somehow appear in “Fast & Furious 9.” Since he was killed off though, it seems that any scene with Han would involve revisiting the past. If that was the case, then it looks like other ‘Fast & Furious’ characters might make a surprise appearance too.

13 Han and Gisele are still alive

via hotflick.net

For some reason, there are those who believe that Han, along with his former flame, Gisele, are still alive. As Reddit user omegansmiles pointed out, “For both Han and Gisele, we never see a body. There is a scene at Han's funeral but none for Gisele. Did they just not find a body or is it a simple movie editing mistake? Someone forgot to film a tombstone for Gisele"?" Highly unlikely considering the focus on Letty's tombstone in the 7th.”

12 Leo and Santos had been working for Shaw all along

via chicagotribune.com

According to a post by Reddit user Dave_Kun, “When Shaw talks to Dom on the parking lot he tells them that Dom's value on family was his weakness. This he could have learned more thorough by Santos and Leo considering they worked with him and by the 6th Leo and Santos dropped off Dom's radar because their job with shaw was done. Shaw now had a crew and they had money. This could also explain how Shaw got all the files and knew so much about Dom's crew when they join Hobbs on taking him down.”

11 We will see more of Dom’s baby

via hollywoodreporter.com

At the end of “The Fate of the Furious,” we see Dom happily reunited with his baby after the Shaw brothers rescued the infant from Cipher’s private plane. And since the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise is all about celebrating and honoring family, it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of Dom’s adorable little one yet. Maybe we’ll get to see the baby become a toddler in the upcoming installment.

10 Dom is now a family man, making him risk-averse

via medium.com

Now that Dom has become a father, there are some who believe that he might take a backseat to the action in “Fast & Furious 9.” After all, when Brian and Mia welcomed their own child, that is pretty much what happened. However, we find it hard to believe that Dom wouldn’t do something exciting in the upcoming film since he’s a great driver and he’s the film’s leading man.

9 Dom’s parents may appear

via gq.com

With all the talk of celebrating and valuing family throughout the franchise’s films, some have started wondering about Dom’s actual family, namely his mother and father. As you may recall, Dom’s father is supposedly deceased. However, fans are holding out hope that Dom’s mother would somehow appear and be included in the franchise’s upcoming plot lines.

8 Sean Boswell would officially join the crew

via pinterest.com

Based on the events of “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” Lucas Black’s Sean Boswell was the last person to work with Han before he was tragically killed. And at the end of the movie, Dom also flew to Tokyo to pay Sean a visit and participate in a drag race with him. Hence, it’s not really much of a stretch for Sean to fly back to the U.S. and join Dom’s crew. Some believe this is about to happen in “Fast & Furious 9.”

7 We will see more of Ramsey

via popsugar.com

In the franchise, actress Nathalie Emmanuel plays the character for Megan Ramsey, a tech genius and hacker who created God’s Eye. So far, she has appeared in both “Furious 7” and “The Fate of the Furious.” And so, it stands to reason that she will also be appearing alongside the rest of Dom’s crew in “Fast & Furious 9.” We just hope she plays a more prominent role though.

6 Mr. Nobody will be back

via fanpop.com

The mysterious character of Mr. Nobody is played by veteran actor Kurt Rusell. Mr. Nobody is a covert operative and government agent. He got involved with Dom’s affairs at the request of Johnson’s Hobbs. No one can deny that the chemistry between Dom and Mr. Nobody is both intense and intriguing. And no doubt, we expect him to get involved with Dom and his crew again in the upcoming movie.

5 Eric Reisner will appear too

via pinterest.com

If Mr. Nobody would appear, it is only safe to assume that his second-in-command Eric Reisner wouldn’t be too far behind. This is precisely why the character has also earned the nickname “Little Nobody.” In the movie, this role is portrayed by actor Scott Eastwood and some fans believe that he would also be appearing in the upcoming movie.

4 The Shaws will join Dom’s crew

via pinterest.com

Despite Deckard Shaw being responsible for Han’s death, it seems that he has already earned Dom’s trust after the events of “The Fate of the Furious.” As you may recall, it appears that Shaw and his family worked together to pull off the dangerous rescue mission of Dom’s baby. And with Helen Mirren’s Magdalene Shaw set to appear in “Fast & Furious 9,” it is possible that she and the rest of her brood would join Dom’s crew already.

3 John Cena will play the head of Eteon

via blackfilm.com

While it was confirmed that John Cena would appear in the upcoming ‘Fast & Furious’ film, his actual role has remained a mystery. Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. Among the theories being floated is the idea that Cena would play the head of mysterious organization, Eteon. We’ll just have to wait and see if this is the case.

2 Brian O’Connor may be coming back

via digitalspy.com

Even today, die-hard fans of the franchise have been quite vocal about missing the late actor and his portrayal of Brian O’Connor in the franchise. In the past, Walker’s brothers stepped in to help finish a ‘Fast & Furious’ movie following Walker’s untimely demise. Recently, there are reports surfacing that this is about to happen again. According to an Instagram post from Diesel, Walker’s brother, Cody, dropped by the “Fast & Furious 9” set for a visit.

1 Brian is still an undercover agent

via washingtonpost.com

Some suspect that Brian has been continuing work as an undercover agent this whole time. The evidence is reportedly in the franchise’s sixth film. As Reddit user pointed out, “Further on in the movie, Brian is able to get back to the United States even though he is a ‘wanted man’ and get placed into a maximum security prison of his choice, then escape back to London again. This is his police connections at work which explains how easily all of this is done without him being arrested which would’ve happened the second he would’ve arrived at Heathrow airport.”
