When Fortnite's Servers Shut Down Last Weekend, It Turns Out A Lot Of Players Turned To PornHub

Fortnite Black Hole

We now have a pretty good idea of what Fortnite players get up to when the game’s servers are down.

Last weekend, Fortnite’s season 10 ended with a bang. And then a giant implosion that saw the entire game’s universe get sucked into a black hole until there was absolutely nothing left.

Literally. Every player, every building, and the entire map got sucked into a black hole. Players weren’t able to do anything but stare into the black abyss and hit the “exit” button. It also stayed like this for 40 whole hours.

It turns out that this black hole business was just an elaborate season-ending event combined with some server downtime so that the developers could upgrade the game. Fortnite returned on Tuesday as Fortnite: Chapter 2, Season 1, with all new skins, gameplay enhancements, and a brand new map for everyone to play on.

But that still meant there were 40 hours where Fortnite players had literally nothing to do. So what did they do? Themselves.

We know this for a fact because of PornHub Insights, the data-driven periodical that tells us interesting facts about everyone’s porn habits. They’ve taken a look at major world events in the past, and when 10 million gamers suddenly can’t play their game it’s BOUND to be noticed in the world’s largest adult-focused internet site.

Here's a few takeaways from the article. When Fortnite's servers went down on Sunday, site traffic on PornHub increased by 10.6%. PornHub didn't release specific overall numbers, but we know from previous reports that PornHub has an average daily user count of around 100 million people. A 10% rise means 10 million more people looking to engage in some stress relief, which just so happens to be the number of concurrent players on Fortnite.

Other tidbits included a 152% increase in searches for "Fortnite" on the Monday after, as well as searches for "black hole" increasing 9640%.

"While some of those new searches contained ‘fortnite black hole’,” noted the site, “we can only assume that the previous “black hole” searches were for something completely different."
