Though Maggie Wheeler received a lot of unjustified hate for her role as Janice on 'Friends,' she's since risen above the drama. The thing is, 'Janice' hasn't really changed that much, at least appearance-wise. And, she's still acting.

She has, however, dropped the nasally voice and high-pitched laugh that had her annoying 'Friends' viewers back in the day.

But while a lot of fans disliked the character because she was, to put it simply, annoying, there's another reason why fans think people are justified in being annoyed by Janice.

Viewers Say Janice Wasn't A Very Good Person

Nasally voice and cringey catchphrase aside, 'Friends' viewers pointed out that there's something about Janice that really wasn't so great.

Sure, she might've been a decent girlfriend to Ross for a while, but there were some other things that were worrisome before that. And it was worse than just her laugh and the repeated line 'oh my god.'

Fans Think Janice Did Chandler Wrong...

Redditors pointed out that the friends treated Janice really poorly, which wasn't really fair. Except for the fact that she'd already proven she wasn't that amazing of a person in at least one way: she cheated on Chandler.

Plus, fans pointed out, she also stepped out on her husband. Which made her less than perfect girlfriend material for any of the core friend group.

Viewers Were Meant To Dislike Janice

By now, most viewers realize that they were simply meant to dislike Janice, and making her have a funny voice and an annoying laugh was the easiest way to achieve the goal.

After all, the showrunners didn't seem to intend to make her a long-running character on the show, despite how well she got along with the rest of the cast.

So it was OK if Janice wasn't that great of a person, character-wise; everyone knew she wouldn't last. Still, not everyone was happy with how her character was written off the show.

And yet, real-life Maggie Wheeler didn't mind leaving the show, and she departed with fond memories. She's even given interviews in the years since the show wrapped and really seems to have had a great time on set -- even if her character wasn't a fan favorite.

In fact, Maggie still posts on Instagram with memories of 'Friends,' and she's been involved in some nostalgic events at Central Perk and elsewhere. And regardless of how the character was written, fans still appreciate what Maggie brought to the series and its TV legacy.
