How Full House Changed Bob Saget’s Comedy Career

By the time Bob Saget passed away at the young age of 65, the popular comedian and actor seemed to have found his place in the world. While that is wonderful, the truth of the matter is that throughout Saget’s life, he had to cope with one tragedy after another. As it turns out, Saget seemingly embraced comedy as his way of dealing with all of the tragedies in his life.

Given the fact that Bob Saget’s flair for comedy seems to have at least partially stemmed from dark chapters in his life, it makes sense that he had a pretty extreme sense of humor. In 2006, Saget was interviewed by The Daily Northwestern’s Ketul Patel. “I started my comedy when I was 17, and I had wild jokes from the start. In fact, my first joke was, ‘I have the brain of a German shepherd and the body of a 16-year-old boy. They are in my car. Do you want to see them?’”

Once Full House became a massive hit, Bob Saget became famous for the role of Danny Tanner. Of course, Full House and the character Danny Tanner were extremely wholesome, to say the very least. With that in mind, it certainly would have made sense if Saget opted to make his standup routine a lot tamer. That way Full House fans wouldn’t be disgusted when they saw Saget perform on stage. According to what he said in the aforementioned The Daily Northwestern interview, however, starring in Full House made Saget’s standup comedy much raunchier.

After talking about how dark his comedy always was, Bob Saget made it clear that once he realized that fans thought it was funny to see Danny Tanner curse, he took things a lot further. “The show changed me. I felt like my voice was tainted because I had to serve that audience. If I cursed, it would have been a big deal in my stand-up back then. Everything I do now is R-rated.”

Even though it is clear that Bob Saget adored all of his Full House co-stars, he seemed to have an especially close relationship with John Stamos. On top of that, once Saget passed away, there were reports that Stamos took his loss extremely hard.
