The fallout from Meghan and Harry's bombshell interview continues.

Journalist Piers Morgan sensationally quit his co-anchor role on Good Morning Britain last night. It comes after a furious on-air spat with weatherman Alex Beresford over his harsh criticizm of the Duchess of Sussex.

Good Morning Britain airs on British broadcaster ITV. Bosses at the station allegedly asked 55-year-old Morgan to apologize after saying he "didn't believe a word' the Duchess said in her sit down with Oprah, but he refused.

Now sources are claiming Meghan submitted a formal complaint to ITV about the way he has spoken about her. But headstrong Morgan doubled down on his views on Markle today, calling her incendiary claims about the Royal Family "contemptible."

"I don't believe a word that comes out of her mouth," he declared.

Speaking outside his West London home Morgan told reporters:

"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."

He added: "I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible."

In the interview, the Duchess said she was suicidal while five months pregnant and accused the Royal Family of racism.

Morgan said he "didn't believe a word she [Meghan] said to Oprah and branded her "Princess Pinocchio."

Piers views sparked more than 41,000 complaints to British TV regulator Ofcom.

Meanwhile Morgan described his departure from GMB as "amicable" saying:

"I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree."

He added: "I'm just going to take it easy and see how we go. I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that's entirely their right."

Yesterday viewers watching Good Morning Britain were left open mouthed as Morgan walked off set live on air. His exit came after the show's weatherman Alex Beresford accused him of unfairly "trashing" Meghan.

He branded the former Britain's Got Talent judge "diabolical" saying: "I'm sorry but Piers just spouts off on a regular basis and we have to sit there and listen."
