Even to this day, Gabriel Macht is best known for his time on Suits. In the hit USA Network legal drama, the Bronx native played the relentless lawyer and partner Harvey Specter. Now, Macht may have been acting long before joining the Meghan Markle-famed series, but some believe that portraying Harvey was a career-defining move for the actor. In fact, one might also say that it is one of the best roles he’s ever landed so far.Since Suits ended in 2019, fans haven’t really heard much from Macht. That said, it is worth noting that this actor is no rookie. In fact, his is a Hollywood career that goes all the way back to the '80s. That essentially means he can afford to take a break. Gabriel Macht Was A Movie Star Long Before Suits Came Along
For Macht, the desire to pursue acting must have come naturally. After all, it’s in his blood.
“My father's [Stephen Macht] an actor and a bunch of his actor friends and writers, they'd come over to the house, and we'd always sort of bombard them with our little shows,” the actor revealed during an interview with NPR.
“And, you know, [a] couple of years ago, someone asked me, 'Why'd you become an actor?' And it's because someone clapped.”
From the beginning, Macht showed he had genuine acting talent. In fact, he booked his first-ever Hollywood role when he was just a young boy, starring alongside veteran actor Treat Williams in the 1980 comedy drama Why Would I Lie?.
Macht Had Many Roles Leading Up To (And During) Suits
Mach took some time off from acting afterward but once he returned, the roles kept coming. Over the years, he starred in films such as Simply Irresistible, Behind Enemy Lines, The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, Bad Company, American Outlaws, Grand Theft Parsons, The Recruit, Because I Said So, Middle Men, and White Out.
The actor also starred alongside Scarlett Johansson and John Travolta in A Love Song for Bobby Long. Soon after, he also reunited with Johansson and played the titular role in Frank Miller’s The Spirit. For Macht, agreeing to do the film was really a no-brainer.
“I actually think that each scene - if you take just a frame here and there is like a piece of art, Is a work of art. So, that's the first draw,” he explained in an interview with Paul Fischer.
“The second draw is - gosh, when you're a kid, you want to be an actor - I mean, for me, I would have loved to have been a superhero as a kid.”
Unfortunately, the film was a big flop.
Earlier In His Career, Gabriel Macht Also Dabbled In TV Work
Unlike other TV stars, Macht barely did any TV work prior to taking a regular role in Suits (he briefly appeared in Spin City, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Sex and the City though).
In fact, his last regular tv role was in the Emmy-nominated series The Others which was released back in 2000. The show revolves around a group that investigates cases, which involve all things paranormal.
Meanwhile, Macht was also originally cast in the CBS crime drama Numb3rs. And while it seems that the actor was involved in the production of a pilot, Macht later exited the show so that his role had to be recast. Then, the actor didn’t work on any other show until Suits came along.

Suits helped many actors reach higher net worths, including Sarah Rafferty, who's been busy post-Suits.
At present, estimates indicate that Macht is worth anywhere between $8 and $10 million. Over the years, the actor, along with his wife, invested in a number of incredible homes around the world, including one in Los Feliz, which the couple listed in 2015 for a reported $1.998 million.
In addition, Macht and his wife also own a home in Australia, which they even offered Mach's former co-star Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to stay in during their tour down under.
Meanwhile, even today, it is unclear how much Macht got paid on Suits per episode. That said, some estimates indicate that the actor received a high six figures during his time on the show.
After, Macht served as the lead star alongside Patrick J. Adams.
It is also believed that the actor and his former Suits co-stars receive royalty paychecks to this day.
Throughout his career, Macht has also entered into some major brand partnerships. For instance, he was named a brand ambassador for the South African broadcast service DSTv.
For now, it seems that Macht still has no TV or film projects coming up. And as it turns out, Macht had been eager for a break after wrapping up his time on Suits.
“I feel I’ve put some creative good into the world and now I want to put some creative heart, more focus and energy into [being with] my wife (Macht married actress Jacinda Barrett in 2004) and my family,” the actor told TV Insider. “And explore some other interests that I might have.”
