She's one of the most famous models in the world, so it's understandable why Gigi Hadid wanted to be in control of sharing the news of her pregnancy. Hadid gave birth to Khai, her baby daughter Khai Zayn Malik in September last year.
On June 14, Gigi shared in an interview with i-D, that she snuck out of parties during fashion week because she was pregnant.
Gigi Hadid Was Pregnant During Fashion Week
The fashionable model is booked and busy throughout the year, but she's always caught up during fashion week. Gigi found out she was pregnant a day before Tom Ford's Fall/Winter 2020 show during NY fashion Week, and made sure her mom accompanied her to the shows that month, to help her with the morning sickness.
"I knew and that's why my mom came with me to fashion month — to help me with morning sickness and doing the shows. That cover shoot was the last thing before I went home," she said, referring to the i-D cover shoot she did in February 2020.
Gigi explained her experience of finding out she was pregnant, and how hard it was to power through especially during fashion month.
She explained: "Super strange. It obviously felt weird during fashion month when I secretly felt so sick at work but you can't take a sick day during fashion week!"
Hadid had to "pretend it wasn't happening". She went on to add that she snuck out of parties because she was pregnant and couldn't really be a part of them. "Or, you know, We had a birthday party and someone would offer me a drink, and I'm like, 'Oh, I'm not drinking this month' or whatever. And as everyone started to get tipsy, I would sneak out."
Gigi also touched upon raising Khai, and revealed she was excited to see her daughter embrace her mixed-race background.
"I think that Khai will grow up feeling out the way that she can or wants to be a bridge for her different ethnicities," said Gigi, adding that she's excited to have those conversations with her and see where she comes from, "without us [Zayn and herself] putting that onto her".
She gushed, "What comes from her is what I’m most excited about, and being able to add to that or answer her questions, you know?"
