The brand new Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie made its debut on January 2nd when cookie sales officially started and Girl Scouts everywhere began their best sales pitches. This cookie is chewy and made with caramel and semi-sweet chocolate chips. It has hints of sea salt which adds a new flavor to the classic line up of cookies. It's also made with oat flour instead of wheat flour making it the ideal choice for those with celiac disease and other gluten intolerances.

Stewart Goodbody, the Senior Director of Communications and External Affairs for the Girl Scouts of the USA released a statement to Today Food about the new cookie and all the returning flavors we all know and love.  Goodbody mentioned that the caramel/chocolate chip combination was selected to appeal to millennial consumers are looking for more gluten-free options

The Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie joins classic Girl Scout cookies including( names based on location): Tagalongs/peanut butter patties, Thin Mints, S'mores, Caramel deLites/Samoas, Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs, Shortbread/Trefoils, and Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwich. In recent years Girl Scouts have also added Lemonades, Savannah Smiles and Thanks-A-Lot cookies.

The Girl Scouts of America were founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 as an educational program for young girls. The first scouts were gathered in Low's own backyard in Savannah, Georgia where they learned about nature, played sports, and participated in many activities meant to foster inclusiveness, self-reliance, and service.  The group quickly expanded to numerous troops throughout the United States, and eventually the globe.

The scouts started selling cookies in 1917 as a fundraiser to support their group and yearly camping trips. In the years since Girl Scout cookie season has become a fun time to indulge in the cookies, that we either used to sell or buy, as kids. And really, they are all really good cookies. And they have something for everyone. Cookie sales will go into February so keep an eye out!
