The Real Star Of 'Captain Marvel' Is Goose The Cat (And You Can't Convince Us Otherwise)

Captain Marvel hits the big screen later this week and we are entirely convinced that Goose the cat is going to steal the show.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has well and truly dominated the world of big-budget movies for the past decade. Even though Captain Marvel will be the 21st movie released as part of the MCU in a little more than eleven years, the momentum the franchise is generating only continues to gather speed.

Captain Marvel's release is a highly anticipated one for a couple of reasons. First of all, it will be the first female-led movie so far for the franchise. It is also highly likely that Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, will be the most powerful superhero MCU fans have seen to date. On top of all that, Captain Marvel marks the last hurdle before Avengers: Endgame where we suspect she will play a key role in taking down Thanos.

Yes, that's all very exciting, but we know that is not what you're here for. You're here to learn about the real star of Captain Marvel, Goose. Goose is Danvers' cat and is named as an ode to the character's time serving in the air force during the 1980s. In the comics, the cat is named Chewie. However, since Disney now owns the MCU and the Star Wars franchise, perhaps they thought a Top Gun reference would be more appropriate.

While you often hear how troublesome it can be working with animals on set, according to Entertainment Weekly Goose was no hassle at all. His real name is Reggie, and it sounds as if he hit it off with the man behind the eyepatch, Samuel L. Jackson.

"You give them a snack, you talk to them in a relatively kind tone, and give them another snack when it’s over," Jackson explained when talking about Reggie and his replacement cats. Larson added that she tends to work in much the same way.

Speaking of Larson, despite Reggie being her sidekick when the cameras are rolling, she was not a fan of her feline friend. That's because the actress is allergic to cats. The MCU's newest hero joked about performing stunts all day and then not being able to perform a simple scene if Reggie was a part of it.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters this Friday (March 8, 2019) and while most eyes will be on Larson, we'll be focussing all our attention on Reggie's portrayal of Goose.
