Everything seems to be going well for actor Chris Pratt in recent years. For starters, he’s been starring in several major film franchises – the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Jurassic World, and Lego films, to be exact. He’s also been taking on other film projects too.

At the same time, Pratt is happily married to Katherine Schwarzenegger. The pair also welcomed a daughter in 2020. Indeed, things seem to fall into place for the actor nowadays. In fact, it’s almost hard to imagine that he had to go through a divorce once with ex-wife Anna Faris. And interestingly, it seems his introduction as Star-Lord in the MCU may have figured in that split.

A Timeline Of Chris Pratt And Anna Faris’ Marriage

Pratt and Faris became in engaged back in 2008 (the pair had started dating after Faris divorced her first husband, Ben Indra). At that time then, marriage seemed to be the natural next step in their relationship. “We had talked about getting married and were living together,” Faris recalled while speaking on her podcast Unqualified. “One day I found a bag from a jeweler of the floor of his truck, so I knew something was coming.”

The couple wed in a ceremony in Bali just a year later. As romantic as this may sound, however, the wedding was unplanned. As it turns out, Faris and Pratt decided to tie the knot while holidaying together. Unfortunately, the vacation wasn’t really going well. “We were in Bali suffering from food poisoning - the really rough kind, you know, sharing the toilet,” Faris recalled while speaking with Independent. And then, things took a surprising turn. “I was looking for chicken broth on the room service menu and saw the hotel also did weddings. While still feverish, Chris said, 'Let's do it.’ So the staff found us some traditional Balinese clothes and a local priest. We had no idea what was going on but we came back married.”

Faris and Pratt later welcomed a son, Jack, in 2012. The couple appeared happy together until rumors started to surface that their marriage was in trouble. Reports claimed that Pratt had been cheating on Faris with his Passengers co-star, Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. The two shared great chemistry on-screen, so much so that fans believed they were dating behind the scenes. The couple later denied the rumors, insisting that they are still together. “This has been blindsiding to us. We have an incredible relationship,” Faris also admitted while speaking with Us Weekly. “It has been weirdly stinging.”

In 2017, Pratt and Faris shocked fans when they announced that they were separating. “We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed,” the couple said in a statement. “We still love each other and will always cherish our time together.” Soon after the announcement, Faris also opened up during an episode for her podcast saying, “Life is too short to be in relationships where you feel this isn’t fully right or somebody doesn’t have your back, or somebody doesn’t fully value you. Don’t be afraid to feel your independence if things aren’t right.”

How Guardians Of The Galaxy May Led Their Split

Just recently, Faris also took the time to reflect on her past relationships while conversing with actress Gwyneth Paltrow on her podcast. “My two other marriages were with actors, and I don't think we did a great job of eliminating competitiveness. Or at least I didn't, being a proud person and not wanting to reveal vulnerability,” Faris explained.

Around the time that Faris and Pratt started dating, it was Faris who was the more recognizable celebrity of the two, having already starred in films like Scary Movie, The House Bunny, Lost in Translation, and Brokeback Mountain. As for Pratt, he was already taking on roles (the couple met on the set of the 2007 film Take Me Home Tonight), but his career wouldn’t take off until booking the part of Andy Dwyer in the series Parks and Recreation.

Around the time he was working on the show, Pratt got cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 as Star-Lord, even beating out other actors who were on the shortlist for the role. Just like that, Pratt’s movie career exploded. In fact, the actor also booked roles in critically acclaimed films such as Zero Dark Thirty, Her, and Moneyball. Meanwhile, Faris became occupied with the CBS sitcom Mom. Looking back, the actress explained, “Any hint of competitiveness and comparison, I didn't handle that very well, I don't think.”

Since divorcing Pratt, Faris has since become engaged to cinematographer Michael Barrett. And while she’s clearly moved on from her ex, the two actors have remained close as they co-parent their son together. After all, they both have Jack’s best interests at heart. “Grudge-holding is not something that Chris and I do,” Faris once explained while speaking on divorce attorney’s Laura Wasser’s Divorce Sucks! podcast. “So, we wanted to make sure, of course, that Jack was happy, but that we were happy and supportive of each other and that we could have this fantasy idea of, do we all spend Christmas together? Do we all vacation together? How do we make sure that everybody that we love feels safe, and that we also respect the love we have for each other?”
