Hollywood relationships typically don't last. Just ask the likes of Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow. The two had their fair share of failed relationships, including alongside one another. Paltrow blames herself for their failed relationship, though in addition, she would undergo another divorce just a few years back, this time to her long-time partner Chris Martin.

We'll take a look back at exactly what went down between Brad and Gwyneth. During their time together as a couple, Paltrow admitted that they really hit it off, till this day, she has nothing but positives to say about her time alongside Pitt.

However, down the road, things would change and the age gap played a big role in their separation. We'll examine why the two ended up calling off their engagement, along with a look at how they feel about one another today, despite the failed relationship.

Paltrow And Pitt Had A Strong Relationship

Despite the fact that the two ended up going their own ways, Paltrow and Pitt had quite a strong bond. Paltrow opened up about their time together, revealing that she thought they would be set together at the time.

"This, I believe I was on set with Brad Pitt," Paltrow said in reaction to the photo. "He was making a movie called… I don't remember. He was making a movie, and I'm sure it was great. He was so nice, and we were a very '90s couple." She added of her look, "I know that Calvin Klein leather jacket was one of my favorite pieces."

Gwyneth would further reveal that Brad was also her protector at the time, especially during an instance with the now-disgraced Harvey Weinstein.

“It was like the equivalent of throwing him against the wall,” Paltrow said. “It was so fantastic because what he did was, he leveraged his fame and power to protect me at a time when I didn’t have fame or power yet.”

“Harvey was never inappropriate with me again. Ever,” she continued. “Power was his currency and he knew when to, you know, give you something and take it away. I did put it behind me but … our professional relationship was pretty fraught at times.”

Despite all the great times, the two ended up getting separated after their engagement.

Immaturity Was The Biggest Reason For Their Split

Things were going very well between the two but ultimately, Paltrow claims that her younger age and age gap between the two played the biggest role in their split. According to Paltrow, immaturity was a huge part of the separation, as she revealed alongside Howard Stern.

"I was such a kid," she said. "It's taken me until 40 to get my head out of my ass. You can't make that decision when you're 22 years old … I wasn't ready, and he was too good for me … I didn't know what I was doing."

"So, Brad Pitt, if you're listening…" and Paltrow added, "I f***** that up, Brad."

At the very least, there wasn't a media frenzy following their split. Paltrow did reveal had that taken place in this day and age, things would've been very different. Nonetheless, she would move on to Ben Affleck while Pitt married Jennifer Aniston a little later on.

Despite the breakup, the two have remained on good terms.

Brad And Gwyneth Are On Amicable Terms When They See Each Other

Following her relationship with Brad, Paltrow kept an active dating life up until she met 'Coldplay's' Chris Martin. The two hit it off and in 2003, they would tie the knot. Surprisingly, after more than a decade of marriage, they two went their own ways. Today, she's married alongside her new husband Brad Falchuk. The two got hitched in 2018.

Brad's dating life was also quite active post-Paltrow, he ended up marrying Aniston in 2000, only to separate from the 'Friends' star and remarry alongside Angelina Jolie. Of course, we all know by now that the relationship wouldn't last either, ending on some tough terms given the children they shared.

Despite going their own ways, the two remained amicable over the years, as Paltrow revealed alongside US Magazine.

''And I’m friendly with Brad Pitt. I don’t have any really bad blood.'' Surely, given the fact that both have matured since then played a big role.

In addition, they underwent different relationships since then. Who knows, maybe had Paltrow been a little older at the time, the might've lasted.
