Apparently some magic does exist in the real world-- Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis shared a public emotional plea after his wallet went missing and he got it back!
The 29-year-old actor from Leeds, best known by Potterheads for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter franchise, lost his wallet in East London last week. He was devastated to part with a small piece of metal engraved with a note from his wife that was found inside the wallet, according to Daily Mail.
He shared an emotional appeal on social media on Wednesday, January 23 asking whoever had "stolen or found" his wallet to mail this very specific item back to him. He wasn't concerned about losing his money, but only wanted this cherished piece of memorabilia back.
Yo, if you stole my wallet in East London yesterday or even if you just found it: it’s yours, keep it, have the money, the cards, the lot. But the note from my wife engraved on a piece of metal, if you can post that to the address on the driving licence I’d call it evens. Please?— Matthew Lewis (@Mattdavelewis) January 22, 2019
Matthew's followers were quick to respond to the tweet, with one fan even making a Harry Potter reference, saying: ""Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect" - Luna Lovegood I hope you get it back soon! ❤️.'"
Another fan tweeted: "First Trevor, now this!!!! Hope you find it soon ♥️," referring to Matthew's character Neville Longbottom's pet toad that he regularly lost at Hogwarts. One follower added: "How cute is that? I hope the right person sees this and returns it to you ❤️."
The right person did indeed see his plea and has since given his wallet back to him. Taking to Twitter once more, Lewis updated his 1.44million followers with the news and thanked them all for helping with the search:
“Wow. You guys are dope. Really humbled by this response. That got more pick up than any of my Brexit material. “And guess what I have? My wallet! I did not expect that to happen. “I owe you all a debt of gratitude and can’t thank you all enough. “You’re amazing. This is a good day.”
His post has already been liked more than 2,000 times. He did not say whether the returned wallet contained his money or cards. The 29-year-old got engaged to event planner Jones in 2016, with a spokesman saying at the time that both were “over the moon”. He played Neville in eight Harry Potter films, and was named by author J.K. Rowling as one of the “big seven” cast members.
Matthew tied the knot with his American girlfriend Angela Jones in June 2018.
The pair were married in a lavish Italian ceremony, which the actor revealed details of on Twitter. He joked to fans that he was "fuming" as he was meant to be seeing the Arctic Monkeys in concert, but Angela had made him get married instead.
