Let's all agree that french fries are amazing. Knowing that, be aware that a Harvard researcher recently declared that people should only eat six french fries in one sitting for their health. As expected, the internet hilariously disagreed because, frankly, that's absurd.
Eric Rimm, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at Harvard University came up with this odd suggestion. Understandably, there were some opinions on this controversial statement. Most were, of course, negative because french fries are delicious and only a robot would stop themselves at just six fries. No normal person has that kind of willpower. Plus, does this apply to all types and cuts of fries? Waffle fries are bigger than normal fries. Does that mean we can only have three waffle fries at a time? It's a lot to take in all at once.
Rimm helpfully gave a suggestion for a healthier side dish and recommends that a side salad with a mere six french fries on the side of that is the perfect double side dish. Is it a perfect way to balance a healthy diet with some indulgences? Or just a way to torture yourself? It's torture. Give us all the fries.
What kind of MAD MAN would want six french fries? I get it, they are bad for you, but eating SIX sounds like torture. I’d rather not have them at all. But we all know that’s not going to happen. 🍟 pic.twitter.com/dDT4HYjNUF— ⚜️ηαтαℓιє ℓσ¢кєтт⚜️ (@natlckettwrites) November 29, 2018
According to Rimm, potatoes are the most consumed vegetable in the United States. Americans eat on average 115.6 pounds of potatoes a year and 2/3 of that is in processed forms like chips or french fries. It's no secret that potatoes are one of the least healthy vegetables due to lack of nutrients. Green veggies are much healthier and aren't typically fried in oil and overly salted in preparation.
when I’m hungry I’m probably eating 6 fries per bite if we’re being honest https://t.co/QbiHbJQ9IY— Chance Harbour (@ChanceHarbour) December 5, 2018
The bottom line is that Americans know this and we don't care. French fries are amazing and their contribution to our mortality rate is known but overruled by the salty fried, good that we dip in a plethora of sauces and eat weekly.
What do you think of this recommendation? Would you eat only six fries in a sitting? Or would you rather not eat fries at all? Let us know in the comments!
