Marvel Studios have set fans abuzz by releasing the highly anticipated trailer for the new Disney+ series Hawkeye.

The series, which will focus on Jeremy Renner's MCU character Clint Barton, is based on the award-winning 2012 comic book series by Matt Fraction. The new trailer offers a first glimpse of the challenges Barton will face in the series, especially in the form of comic-book villains, the Tracksuit Mafia.

Alongside the epic-looking action sequences, the trailer also gave fans a first look at Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop in action. Steinfeld's portrayal didn't seem to disappoint, with many Twitter users loving the relationship between Barton and Bishop. One fan wrote, "they're easily gonna be the MCU's best duo! I can't wait to see this relationship explored." While another tweeted, "Hailee Steinfeld is the perfect Kate Bishop, I could cry."

The latest addition to Marvel's Phase 4 of releases, which have included previous Disney+ series WandaVision, Loki, and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, Hawkeye promises high-stakes and an engrossing first solo expedition for Renner's much-loved character. The series also looks set to explore Barton's relationship with his family, and how it will be tested as the superhero is drawn back into his crime-fighting past.

Throughout the trailer, Barton is seen making amends with his family, who was blipped away in Avengers: Endgame. He is shown enjoying dinnertime with them and, in one scene, promises his daughter that he will be home for Christmas. Fans were quick to note that his wife, Laura Barton, was missing in those scenes.

Social media response to the trailer has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the series' faithfulness to the original comics. Fans are also anticipating Florence Pugh's reprisal of her Black Widow character, the assassin Yelena Belova. Her name trended worldwide on Twitter upon the trailer's release, despite the character not making an appearance in it.

Set to premiere at the end of the year, Hawkeye will have a suitably festive theme, much to the joy of Marvel fans. The catchy tagline on the series' first teaser promotional poster reads, 'This holiday season, the best gifts come with a bow'. One Twitter user wrote, "Hawkeye looks SO MUCH FUN! Loving the Christmas vibes and Kate Bishop is here to steal the show!"

Eagle-eyed fans also spotted multiple easter eggs in the first look at the upcoming series, such as a poster for Steve Rogers: The Musical and shots of actors dressed up as The Avengers, seemingly performing musical numbers on a stage. But others were most excited to get the first glimpse at Lucky "The Pizza Dog" in live-action, with one fan tweeting, "HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER," and another declaring him to be "exactly comic accurate."

Hawkeye will be hitting Disney+ streamers on November 24th. It's one more reason why September is absolutely never too early to start getting excited about the holidays!
