Henry Cavill is starting to get back into form after an injury on the set of The Witcher kept him off-camera since December. According to a social media post, he's literally up and running – but not very fast, not yet.

Fans were worried when the news of his injury first hit in mid-December. It happened on The Witcher set, and was described as "a minor leg muscle" injury in a report in Deadline. The hit Netflix series based on the video game of the same name is being filmed at Arborfield Studios just west of London, UK.

Injured On An Assault Course

According to The Sun, the circumstances of the accident are worthy of Geralt of Rivia himself. Cavill had been working on an assault course and was suspended 20ft. above ground, in trees in a safety harness. According to the report, he'd been pulled up suddenly and was said to be in a lot of pain at the time, although an ambulance was not called to the set.

However, a source on-set noted that the injury would make it difficult for Cavill to move in Geralt's heavy armor.

While many stars rely on stunt people, Henry is known for doing many of his own stunts on set. He is said to be influenced by Tom Cruise and his policy of handling his own action scenes in movies. Many articles have been written about Cavill's workout routine, and he told an interviewer that he enjoys "the physical stuff". Unfortunately, doing his own stunts also puts him at risk of accidents and injuries.

He's kept in touch with fans during his recovery, and recently shared an injury update on Instagram.

"We are in lockdown here the UK so I'm using my once-a-day outdoor exercise to go for my first jog since my hamstring injury! (More on that another time). It wasn't fast, and it certainly was far, but it has been a major step in my recovery, and my first step to getting back into the groove after a Christmas that may have involved more than a few cups of mulled wine, and an exceptionally fat Turkey."

Filming kept going on the series while Cavill convalesced. As it happened, the injury occurred just before the usual holiday break, which lessened its impact. The original production schedule, like so many others over the last several months, has already been delayed due to the restrictions of the ongoing pandemic.

DC and Superman fans are also hoping that Cavill soon returns to the set in top physical condition. Ever since Zack Snyder posted a pic of Cavill in the classic Superman costume in early January, the #HenryCavillSuperman has been trending - just as it did a few months ago.

How soon will he be back at work? The type of injury makes it difficult to say. Cavill's Insta post confirmed that the injury was to his hamstring muscle, actually a group of muscles at the back of the leg. Recovery times from a hamstring injury vary depending on where the tear has occurred and can take anywhere from four to six weeks up to two or three months.
