For people who do not know what cryptocurrency is, it's a digital currency that is secured by cryptography, which can be exchanged online for goods and services. The popularity of cryptocurrency began with Bitcoin. People started to invest in the digital currency in 2009, and since then, Bitcoin has become the number one cryptocurrency among regular folks and celebrities.

Celebrities, such as Elon Musk, have been very vocal about their cryptocurrency investments and encourages others to do the same. Even though celebrities have endorsed this type of investment, that does not mean it's the best way to make a quick buck. 10 Snoop Dogg

"Gin and Juice" rapper Snoop Dogg, who feuded with Iggy Azalea, showed an interest in cryptocurrency in 2013. It started after he tweeted he may accept bitcoin as a form of payment for his upcoming album. In February 2021, the rapper also showed his support for digital currency Dogecoin

on Twitter with a photo of a Shiba Inu dog and tagged Elon Musk, who caused the cryptocurrency to rise. Sparkle Coin, another cryptocurrency, donated $55,000 USD worth of coins to the Snoop Youth Football League, an organization that sponsors youth football leagues, in 2017.

9 Gwenyth Paltrow

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, whose mother is Blythe Danner, showed her support for bitcoin in 2017 when she became the face of bitcoin wallet Abra and an advisor. In 2018, Paltrow also shared to social media an article on bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and how to make a basic investment.

8 Nas

Famous hip hop singer Nas snd his manager, Aymen Anthony Saleh, have invested $25 million USD in bitcoin exchange Coinbase. During an interview with Coindesk, he revealed, "Bitcoin will evolve into an industry as big, if not bigger, than the internet. My man Ben Horowitz really opened my eyes to that point."

7 Mike Tyson

World-renowned boxer Mike Tyson was also someone who was an investor of bitcoin early on. Not to mention, Tyson invested in the currency and created Bitcoin ATMs, which are marked with his iconic face tattoo. In 2015, it was announced, Tyson had partnered with Bitcoin Direct to launch a Bitcoin wallet for both phones and handsets.

6 Floyd Mayweather

Mel B, as known as Scary Spice from the iconic '90s girl group Spice Girls, was one of the first in the music industry to accept bitcoin as payment. Mel, who once dated Eddie Murphy, received her first bitcoin payment for her Christmas record in 2014. During this time, the singer was also partnering with London-based investment firm Cloudhashing, a bitcoin company that makes it easy for anyone to invest in bitcoin mining.

4 Jamie Foxx

Academy award-winning actor Jamie Foxx has been a supporter of bitcoin since 2017. Foxx tweeted in support of Cobinhood, a cryptocurrency exchange, and revealed his interest in trading bitcoin. He wrote, "Looking forward to participating in the new @cobinhood Token! ZERO fee trading!" However, some investors don't love a celebrity endorsement as it's one of the worst ways to get into investing.

3 Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton has publicly shown her enthusiasm for cryptocurrency, specifically the blockchain venture Lydian. In September 2017, the former reality star took to Twitter to announce that she would be participating in the initial coin offering even though it was controversial at the time. However, Hilton's love for cryptocurrency dates back to 2016 when she was featured in an Instagram post with Stephan Tual, former CCO of cryptocurrency Ethereum. The businesswoman has since distanced herself from either investment after domestic violence charges against Gurbasksh Chahal, CEO of LydianCoin’s parent company Gravity4, were uncovered.

2 50 Cent

In 2014, rapper 50 Cent reportedly took bitcoin as payment for his album Animal Ambition. The sources believe he received around 700 bitcoins that were worth more than $7 million USD by 2017. However, the New York native not only denied he received bitcoin as an alternative payment but said that he has never invested in any type of cryptocurrency.

1 Elon Musk

The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, was a huge proponent of cryptocurrency. Dogecoin, a currency that originally started as an internet parody using the image of a Shiba Inu dog, once had Musk as one of their investors. However, in May, Musk revealed the negative environmental impact caused by mining the coins, which caused a tremendous drop in the market. He even stopped Tesla's previous plan of accepting bitcoin as an alternative payment. Nonetheless, Bobby Ong, co-founder of crypto data website CoinGecko, assured the public Musk was "trolling the community" to test his influence.
