Adam Sandler has proven himself to be a big hit over at Netflix, who’ve signed the actor on for a gigantic $250 million four-movie deal.

His comedy Murder Mystery — which also stars Jennifer Aniston — was the most-watched film on the streaming platform in 2019, so it’s pretty obvious to see why the billion-dollar firm has been eager to get Sandler back on board.

Prior to this particular flick, Sandler had already starred in a handful of projects with Netflix including The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, and The Week Of.

He’s built an incredible $420 million net worth that’s only going to continue skyrocketing over the years — especially if Netflix decides to extend their partnership with him for another string of movies.

So what exactly does his enormous deal with the company entail?

Sandler has always been a big draw at the box office, with hits such as Grown Ups, Pixels, Click, and Just Go With It amassing a whopping $1 billion at the box office combined — and those numbers are just based on what these flicks made in the U.S. alone.

Throughout his three-decade career, Sandler has made more than $10 billion at the box office with his movies, which appeared to translate well when he made the move to start working with Netflix, as his content there has also performed tremendously well.

As mentioned, Murder Mystery was a huge film for the streaming giant, and just a year later, the father of two signs the biggest deal of his life, presumably because Netflix understood that Sandler knows his audience all too well.

Netflix Saw Adam Sandler's Potential To Attract Viewers

From comedy to family movies, the 54-year-old is always pitching new ideas to Hollywood studios, and now with the Netflix deal, Sandler gets to focus on making four projects centered around the things he is passionate about.

“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, said in a statement in January 2020.

His last project with Netflix was Hubie Halloween starring Kevin James, Julie Bowen, and Maya Rudolph.

Netflix clearly loves working with Sandler, whose Murder Mystery motion picture was reportedly watched by 83 million households in just four weeks after its release, marking it as the biggest movie on the platform in 2019.

An impressive feat, that’s for sure.

Sandler’s 2015 Western movie, The Ridiculous 6, was also incredibly popular, which Sarandos revealed in his statement, asserting it was one of the most-watched movies on Netflix in history.

"The Ridiculous Six, by way of example, in the first 30 days on Netflix it's been the most-watched movie in the history of Netflix. It's also enjoyed a spot at number one in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it's still number one.”

Film historian Ben Fritz wrote in his book The Big Picture that Sandler was initially skeptical of signing his first deal with Netflix back in 2015, having mainly been focusing his attention on pitching ideas to Hollywood studios. Many, however, were turning him away because they didn’t think his stories appealed to a wide audience.

Clearly, they were mistaken.

Adam Sandler Is A Perfect Fit For Netflix

Netflix revealed in 2020 that its subscribers had spent over two billion hours watching Sandler’s original content since 2015, noted The Verge, making him a very valuable actor to do business with.

Convincing Adam of his potential on Netflix wasn't easy at first, though.

But Netflix's chief content officer convinced him, pointing out that Adam's fans were already watching Netflix — and they'd be happy to see him there.

Since Adam had been pandering his film ideas to other distributors with little luck, it made sense for him to agree to Netflix's offer and give things a chance. It does seem that the gamble paid off!

Not only did Adam earn a killing from the millions-plus package from the streamer, but he also earned more opportunities and a lot more visibility.

In the past, viewers had to head to the theater or purchase a film to see Adam and his crew. These days, it's easier than ever to tune in and help pad the accomplished producer's pockets.

Now that the ink has dried on Adam's Netflix deal, it's clear he's realized the value of partnering with the streaming giant. Who knows what else might be in store for the actor and producer in the future?
