Most people know Cody Simpson as a singer and actor, but by prioritizing his first passion, swimming, he's added another title to his name- Olympic Swimmer. However, he won't be competing for the U.S. team, but rather the Australian team, as that is where he is from.

He is currently competing in the Olympic trials to see if he will make the team. Although he achieved a personal best in the 100 freestyle trial with a time of 50.22 seconds, it was not enough time to qualify him for the Olympics in that race. Simpson is going on to compete in the 100 butterfly, which is his preferred event.

So, we are sending lots of good luck to Cody Simpson as he prepares for his first Olympics. Training to be an Olympic athlete is no joke and takes serious dedication, diets, exercise, and passion. Here is how he prepared himself for the Summer Games.

8 Spending Lots Of Time In The Water

Even before he was training for the Olympics, Cody Simpson liked to spend a lot of his time in the water, swimming, surfing, etc, whether it was in the ocean or his own pool. He grew up swimming, and it taught him a lot of discipline and work ethic that he not only carried into swimming but other aspects of his career as well. Having a love for swimming his whole life inspired him, in 2019, to start training for the Olympics.

7 Working Out Everyday

"My body has changed in the sense that I've put on a lot of muscle mass, especially for my events. You have to have a certain amount of strength and power to propel yourself through the water," Simpson shared with GQ Australia.

He has had a complete lifestyle change since training. The actor used to go to bed a 5 am, now he wakes up at 5 am and swims every morning, doing four hours in the pool every day. Three times a week, Simpson spends 60 to 90 minutes in the gym.

6 Gave Up His Career And Social Life To Train

While The Masked Singer Australia champion used to pour all of his time into singing, acting, touring, and more, he has put all of that on hold to focus all of his energy on the Olympics. Simpson has also had to make sacrifices in his personal life. "There's a certain social life sacrifice you have to make. I have to be in bed at 8pm or 9pm. This keeps you focused," to GQ Sports.

5 Spent Time In Nature

What a better what to get acquainted with the water then to spend time in it. Cody Simpson is a big advocate for saving the oceans and the animals in it and making sure to take care of this earth. On his downtime, like his 24th birthday, Simpson spent some time on a boat, taking in the beautiful scenery. His Instagram is filled with him out in nature, being one with the earth and appreciating all Australia has to offer.

In the trailer, it shows that Simpson went through a tough time making the transition from entertainer to athlete, and that he believed his fans would be cynical of him. Head Above Water began streaming on June 4, so be sure to catch up before the Olympics air. IMDb gives it 8.1 stars out of 10.

3 Followed A Strict Diet

Cody Simpson talked with GQ Australia about his diet and workout regime preparing for the Olympics. He wakes up at 5 A.M. and makes a wrap filled with peanut butter and banana, which gives him the carbs, sugar, and protein he needs to get through his morning practice. Then after he practices, Simpson has a protein shake and toast with avocado, but also sometimes loves to eat fish and veggies. That is usually all he eats in a day, and he tends to be full. But he tries to eat three to four times more than he did before. If he eats red meat, he does not seem to train as well the next day.

2 Gave Up Alcohol

Giving up alcohol while training was one of the best things the 24-year-old could have done for his mental and physical health. "Being relatively sober for months on end is one of the best things you can do for your mental focus. It keeps you on point—it keeps you focused. It keeps you clear," explained to GQ Australia. Many athletes go out and have fun on their off nights of the Olympics, but Simpson seems to be staying focused.

1 Keeps A Support System Close By

Training for the Summer Olympics can definitely be grueling hard work for even the greatest athletes. Cody Simpson continuously pushes himself to the limit to reach his goal. His girlfriend, Marloes Stevens, has been right by his side to cheer him on the whole time.

"Marloes has been supporting Cody while he’s busy preparing and training to compete in the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in Adelaide," a source close to the couple shared with HollywoodLife. "Marloes is so proud of how far he’s come and she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else than right by his side throughout this journey."
