8 She Did An Interview On 'Red Table Talk'

Olivia Jade broke her silence on the college admissions scandal by appearing on Red Table Talk hosted by actress Jada Pinkett Smith; her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris; and her daughter, Willow Smith. On the show, Olivia opened up about everything and she certainly had some tough questions to answer. Here's what she said about moving on:

"I think what hasn’t been super-public is that there is no justifying or excusing what happened because what happened was wrong. And I think every single person in my family can be like, that was messed up, that was a big mistake. But I think what’s important to me is to learn from the mistake, not to now be shamed and punished and never given a second chance. 'Cause I’m 21, I feel like I deserve a second chance to redeem myself, to show I’ve grown. I’m not trying to victimize myself. I don’t want pity, I don’t deserve pity."

7 And She Very Slowly Came Back To YouTube

Olivia Jade returned briefly to YouTube in December 2019 however she quickly realized that most people weren't ready for her comeback yet. The social media star took another long break from the platform and in early 2021 she made her final return. In her return daily vlog video which she posted on January 21, the star acknowledged what happened by saying:

"Hey, a quick little editor's note: Because I didn’t want this to come across the wrong way, and I'd just rather say something and make the video look a little weird. I don't mean to say that in a dismissive way or a pretentious way. I think what I was trying to get across was that the thing I wanted to do the most was apologize for so long and I felt like I got to do that at Red Table Talk and so although I can't change the past, I can change how I act and what I do going forward... I just want to move on and do better and move forward and come back and do what I love, which is YouTube."

6 Olivia Acknowledged Her Part Of The Issue

A big reason why fans managed to move past the scandal was how Olivia handled it. The young star kept apologizing and acknowledging how wrong all of it was and she let time do its thing. During her appearance on Red Table Talk, Olivia also admitted that she now understand her privilege:

"We did all of this and were so ignorant, and I feel like a huge part of having privilege is not knowing you have privilege. I was in my own little bubble focusing about my comfortable world, that I never had to look outside of that bubble."

Yes, the scandal happened and Olivia lost brand deals, fans, and followers but not everyone wrote her completely off. Over the past two years, Olivia slowly went back to doing what she loves most — social media. Today, the star has over 1.3 million followers on Instagram where she posts quite frequently. Brands might still be reluctant to work with the star, but it seems as if a lot of fans appreciated how she handled the scandal and decided to give her a second chance.

4 This Year She Joined 'Dancing With The Stars'

"I would not consider myself a dancer by any means, but it’s so much more work than you really anticipate with the dedication and the patience you have to have with yourself. The pros make it look so effortless and easy, but once you get in there and they're really teaching you the steps, it's way harder than I ever thought. But what I will say is the pros do such a good job."

3 It Seems As If She's Finally Doing What She Likes

Those who kept up with Olivia Jade years before the scandal even happened know that she wanted to drop out of high school and that social media was her priority. Olivia didn't even want to go to college and now that everything unfolded the way it did she will probably never go back. Today, the star is focusing on her career, social media, and accepting every big thing thrown her way. Dancing with the Stars is probably just the beginning.

2 She Has Remained Close With Her Parents

While many perhaps expected the star to cut all ties with her parents — after all, it is them who were primarily responsible for the scandal she had to deal with — the star remained close. Her parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli paid the price for what they did as they pled guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud. Olivia clearly forgave them for what happened and in a way, fans liked to see that to the star family cam first — even above social media.
