Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, is a pivotal figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and in the Thor movies. Portman plays Thor's love interest in the films and although she was absent in later films, she is coming back to reprise her role. Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in May 2022.

It was first announced at Comic Con that Portman would play Lady Thor, the Goddess of Thunder. She will wear a warrior dress and also have a hammer, but not much else is known about the character yet. However, the director said they are taking elements from the comic Mighty Thor, where she takes on the mantle and power of Thor while battling cancer.

Thor: Love and Thunder is the follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and is the 29th film in the MCU.

So, how do angry MCU fans feel about Portman taking up the role of female Thor and who would they want to play it instead?

10 Not Watching

"Now we get female Thor. Not watching Thor Love and Thunder... also that name," one Twitter user tweeted. Many fans said they weren't watching the new Thor movie. Despite female Thor, who is called Mighty Thor in the comics, being an actual character, some MCU fans are not happy with the casting or the idea of a female Thor and just want the films to stick to Chris Hemsworth being Thor.

9 Natalie Portman Isn't Thor

"She isnt Thor....and Natalie Portman hasn't played a leading roll in a successful franchise since the prequels," this Twitter user said. A lot of people aren't necessarily upset about a female Thor, but just the fact she is being played by Natalie Portman seems to be the problem. This Twitter user was referencing the Star Wars prequels, where Portman played Queen Amidala/Padme. Many people liked her in that role.

8 They Are Ruining The MCU

"I'm not mad. I'm just not gonna go see it. It is mildly upsetting they are gonna ruin the MCU, but it's the current trend in movies and TV," said this user. This is what everyone should do, honestly. Instead of complaining about something, just don't see it or watch it. Then it won't affect you. But some might question, how is it ruining the MCU if the female Thor is an actual character in the comics?

7 She Pops Back In And Is Now Thor

A comment on a YouTube video about Portman being announced as female Thor said, "She pops back in to the movie and is now Thor." Many fans were mad that she was absent from the last Thor movie and now just gets to jump back in and play a really significant role. She left because she was not happy with the role she was given, but now gets to be a superhero, so why wouldn't she come back?

6 Natalie Portman Sounds Like A Terrible Choice

"I was never interested in the idea of Female Thor, and Natalie Portman sounds like a terrible choice," this Twitter user tweeted. Again, it seems like most people have a problem with Portman herself playing the role. Although some people don't like the idea of the new character either. Thor: Ragnarok brought in new female characters, so most assumed they would continue with them.

5 Should Have Recast For Mighty Thor

"Natalie Portman sucks so bad tho. Should have recast lady Thor," was the sentiment of this user. Even though Jane Foster played Thor's love interest in the movie, fans want the role recast. Tessa Thompson played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, so why not just cast her? However, this could be setting up for a stand-alone Lady Thor movie and recasting could cause a lot of confusion like in The Incredible Hulk.

4 She's Not Worthy

"Natalie Portman stinks in the role of Jane Foster and it's going to suck to see her wield the power of Thor. She's not worthy," @ReverendDrDash tweeted. You can only lift the hammer of Thor if you are worthy. Other Avengers couldn't even lift the Hammer, who have super strength, so how is little Jane Foster going to lift the Hammer. And how does she get powers? If Thor is a god, does she become one too?

3 They're Bringing Natalie Portman Back?

"They're bringing Natalie Portman back for Thor? She was very unnecessary." Fans were mad that she left and now just gets to come back and be this huge character again. This user even claimed she was unnecessary as the role of Jane Foster, but stepping into this new role, fans may change their mind. Will she ruin a good character or actually bring justice to it?

2 Lady Thor Has No Character Arch

When asked about which Marvel movie was the worst, this user said Captain Marvel but was also mad that MCU created a female Thor with no character arch. If you haven't read the comics you wouldn't know very much about the character, which can make some movie watchers very confused. This is kind of like Hawkeye. He appears in Avengers and Marvel movies but doesn't have a stand-alone movie.

1 The Other Side Of Things

Despite many people being mad about the new role and casting, others were quick to come to her defense. "I will clarify, I AM looking forward to Jane Foster in Thor: Love And Thunder. I’m hoping they give her some better scenes. I enjoy Natalie Portman, generally. I just really disliked this version of Jane. Darcy is the GOAT, though. And Selvig better return," @BaldBeardedBard tweeted.
