He overcame a childhood filled with bullying and feels more empowered than ever at 55 years old to abandon inhibitions. Here's how his life went dramatically off-course after he left high school.
Dropping Out In Tenth Grade
After Rock told King that he just recently learned how to swim and about the changed look at life that feat gave him, he went into how he originally planned to spend his life. He dropped out of high school and was going to follow in his father's footsteps.
"I was probably in the tenth grade. My game plan was to keep working at Red Lobster," the comedian said, "Get my truck driver's license and drive a truck like my dad."
"Honestly Gayle, if you would have offered me in 1989 right before I got on 'Saturday Night Live,'" Rock continued as he discussed the surprises that initiated his comedy career, "A job that paid ten, twelve dollars an hour, I would have never told another joke in my life."
Rock was soon discovered by another SNL legend, Eddie Murphy. He stayed on the show for three seasons until he was let go and pursued In Living Color.
Speaking On Police Brutality
Farther into his interview with Sunday Morning, Rock expressed some views about police brutality and the issue with "bad apples."
The New Jersey resident opened up about his recent encounter with a cop and retold the confusing event, "(He) was like, 'What are you driving around here for,' he said, 'You don't live around here do you,' and I'm looking at him like no, you don't live around here."
He embraced difficult topics to talk about and life events he's overcome. Fans shared their respect for Rock and the honest narration of his life.
One described his personality admiringly accurately, "He’s flawed and he doesn’t hide his flaws. He’s so real! His truth is refreshing for a world that’s mostly faking their reality. It’s brave to own your truth and embrace fear and growth. Chris is brilliant on many levels and what a gift that he shares his brilliance with all of us.
